Position DescriptionENSCO requires an Environmental Safety Technician to provide support as a certified hazardous materials emergency responder, Hazardous waste technician, wastewater room operator, heavy equipment operator, and the preparation of hazardous waste shipping requirements for transportation to offsite waste disposal facilities. The successful candidate will perform fueling operations, escort fuel deliveries, maintain fueling facilities, as well as conduct maintenance and operators training. The position will report to the Manager of Safety, Health, and Environmental & Emergency Services in providing safety, health and environmental support to the site; the Environmental Safety Technician will take direction from the facilities Heavy Equipment Foreman during fueling operations. The Environmental Safety Technician must comply with all OSHA & EPA rules and regulations and meet training requirements.
The Environmental Safety Technician will independently and/or under the direction of the Safety Manager, environmental engineer or the Heavy Equipment Foreman, when conducting fueling operations, respond to hazardous materials spills, operate heavy equipment, monitor site containment areas and fueling facilities, perform maintenance and repairs, perform environmental inspections and documents results. The Environmental Safety Technician will schedule or conduct corrective actions for any hazardous waste inspection findings. The Environmental Safety Technician will be responsible for the annual chemical inventory and maintaining the database independently or assistance of corporate staff or contracted MSDS resources. The Environmental Safety Technician will perform work in other classifications necessary to accomplish ENSCO assignments.
Essential roles and responsibilities will include:
- Conduct weekly environmental inspections, maintenance, documentation, and data input into a variety of forms and data records.
- Work within proper federal, state, and local ordinances, regulations and requirements.
- Perform proper data entry to the environmental management system
- Operate and maintain the wastewater room pumps, piping and associated equipment.
- Conduct spill cleanup.
- Collect drums for disposal and recycling
- Collect and dispose of batteries from all departments onsite
- Attend and participate in all environmental management meetings, safety and quality meetings as well as all pollution prevention meetings and activities.
- Participate in the Safety Resource Team as the resource for any environmental issues.
- Perform heavy equipment operation when required secondary to environmental activities.
- Assist in providing environmental and safety training to employees, customers and contractors.
- Maintain licenses and certifications.
- Communicate with all external and internal customers and work with co-workers in a positive professional manner.
- Maintain a safe, clean and professional work environment.
- Monitor contractor activities as it relates to safety, environmental and fire prevention requirements.
- Conduct limited ENSCO site lifting equipment inspections as it relates to forklifts, lifting hooks and specific lifting equipment.
- Maintain computer skills as it relates to all environmental computer data systems.
- May be required to work different shifts.
- Observe all safety and security procedures; determine appropriate action beyond guidelines; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
- Must be able to comprehend and carryout verbal instructions

Qualifications Required:
- At least 5 years field experience working in an industrial setting performing environmental duties and waste handling
- Must hold and maintain the following certifications:
- OSHA 10 Construction Industry Certification
- 40 Hour Hazwoper Certification
- Forklift Certification
- Class A Commercial Driver's License
- OSHA Confined Space Entry Certification
- Prior experience operating heavy equipment
- Must pass annual ENSCO-required HazMat physical
- Must be able to safely climb a 15-foot high ladder
- Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties. Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest and protective eye glasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.
