Job Summary: Draws blood, process/receives orders and specimens. Supports the Laboratory's mission and vision by providing excellent customer service to all the clients of the laboratory.

Hours: 1:00am - 9:00pm (Weekend Rotation)
Job Essentials:
- Oversees daily activity of phlebotomists in both in-patient and out-patient areas, with focus on safe patient care and satisfaction.
- Coordinates workflow to ensure timely collection of specimens, Monitors sick calls. Adjusts placements accordingly.
- Trains and evaluates new employees, as well as non-lab personnel (i.e., ED tech, PCA, etc). Serves as a resource to other phlebotomists.
- Assumes a level of responsibility/oversight in the department in the absence of the Supervisor.
- Assists the Supervisor in maintaining policies as required (i.e., annual competencies, SOPs, downtime forms, etc.). Assists manager in maintaining training and competency materials. Assesses training needs for staff. Assists manager with gathering data for competency assessments.
- Participates in all relevant quality assurance activities. Performs special job assignments as needed for the department.
- Assists manager or supervisor with activities to support Laboratory Information System software changes; Provide leadership in troubleshooting computer system problems and implementing downtime procedures; Oversee hardware inventory and promptly files service tickets.
- Performs the duties of employees supervised as required by staffing or workload.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Monitors the uncollected list in lab computer to check for completeness and to make appropriate assignments.
- Maintains an adequate level of supplies. Disposes of needles and sharps properly. Maintains a clean working area.
- Maintains a high level of quality and safety.
- Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
- Meets regulatory and annual health assessment requirements.
- Display a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude during interactions with all member of the hospital staff and extended community.
- Performs other duties as required by the department.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma, GED/equivalent, higher educaton accepted, or a minimum of five years' full-time experience in a related healthcare field/reference laboratory setting required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Asstistant/Phlebotomy Program preferred; or five years' full-time experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant (actively drawing blood), required.
- Minimum of 5 years' phlebotomy experience on all age groups.
- Previous exposure to Laboratory and Laboratory terminology.
License/Certification/Registry:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Asstistant/Phlebotomy Program preferred.
- Must have a minimum of one year of experience performing phlebotomy.
