Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Cytotechnologist to process and screen exfoliated cells from body fluids. The ideal candidate screen GYN, Non-GYN and FNA cytology specimens, prepares a final diagnosis on negative/normal gynecologic specimens, and enters all preliminary GYN and Non-GYN results in the system to be finalized by a Pathologist.

Shift: Days
Hours: Variable Days M-F / 8:30am - 4:30pm  (8 hour shifts preferred; 4-6 hour shifts considered)

 

Job Essentials: 

  • Minimum one year (1) experience preferred.
  • Attends Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology procedures in CT, Ultrasound and Endoscopy to determine specimen adequacy.  Ensures all attended procedure specimens are labeled and ordered correctly.
  • Maintains all supplies and stain control log for the mobile FNA cart which is stationed in CT and endoscopy suite.
  • Performs/documents routine maintenance on microscopes and other laboratory equipment to ensure optimal instrument operation.
  • Rescreens FNA slides from the Cytodiagnosis and Breast Care Center as well as outside institutions as requested by Pathologists.
  • Prepares cytology and thin prep specimens on a STAT basis when required.
  • Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
  • Participates in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections.
  • Performs other duties as required by department.

 

Education Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Biological, Chemical or Clinical Laboratory Science required.
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Cytotechology and Certified in Cytotechnology by an HHS approved agency (ASCP).
