The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is responsible for carrying out clinical pharmacy services with primary practice in the area of specialty. The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist promotes clinically rational drug therapy and provides safe, effective, and prompt pharmaceutical care through the development of new (or expansion of existing) practice advancement projects, medication policies, and patient care quality and regulatory compliance initiatives designed to improve medication-use processes that detect, mitigate, and prevent medication adverse events. Clincal Pharmacist Specialist serves as departmental resource and liaison to other departments, hospital personnel, or external groups. Clinical Pharmacist Specialist provides medication and practice-related education/training and actively serves as preceptors for doctor of pharmacy students and pharmacy residents. Other responsibilities include patient care rounds, clinical interventions, medication use evaluations, hospital committee membership and clinical research.

Job Essentials: The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements and competencies.

  • Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency and PGY-2 Specialty Pharmacy Residency preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical pharmacy experience in a hospital setting preferred (Required if no residency)
  • BPS Board Certified in Specialty area preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Significant knowledge and expertise in clinical pharmacy practice, evidence-based medicine, and drug information retrieval systems and literature
  • Self-starter, problem-solver, able to establish priorities and manage time effectively

  • Education Requirements:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required
