Internal Job Description

Engineer (Associate, Staff, Senior, & Principal):

Job Summary 

Performs engineering assignments by following defined processes, procedures, and instructions. Proposes solutions to engineering-related problems. Works with experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization. Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints. Develops models and analyzes data in order to recommend solutions and/or improvements in processes and programs; develops and presents presentations to all levels of management and/or external parties. May provide field engineering assistance or technical support. Keeps up to date on current technology and market/technology trends. Assists in the resolution of emergent plant issues. Ensures compliance to all nuclear quality assurance (NQA) documentation and record keeping requirements, along with all nuclear security safeguards, NERC-CIP, critical digital asset, and other Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements.

 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Prepare and review of Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls engineering design change packages to modify plant equipment.

  • Prepare and review of Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls engineering calculations and analysis including short circuit, voltage drop, and electrical coordination, electrical flash hazard evaluation, setpoint uncertainty analysis, EMI/RFI analysis and electronic equipment exclusion zone calculation.

  • Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, walkdowns, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: P&IDs and process measurement and setpoint calculations; Control Logics; Loop Diagrams; Instrument and Control Component Specifications; DCS and PLC application Design; Instrument Location and Installation Design; Panel Layouts; motor, cable and fuse sizing and protection coordination; protective relaying application; and Vendor Document Review.

  • Prepare and review of Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls equipment specifications, data sheets, and other configuration documents which may include digital and process instrumentation and controls system components, transformers, switchgear, or Motor Control Centers.

  • Interface with external stakeholders to perform Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls document reviews and approvals.

  • Develop and modify Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls design basis documents.

  • Understand and approve electrical and/ or I&C wiring drawings.

  • Support Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls equipment modification installations.

  • Interface with vendor

 

Preferred skills and experience:

  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.

  • 5-10 years' experience in nuclear Electrical and/ or Instrumentation & Controls, with a focus on design in North American nuclear power plants.

  • Familiarity with IEEE Codes and Standards important to nuclear plant design, EPRI technical reports, and GE Setpoint Methodology.

  • Proficiency in using ETAP, MAXIMO, and CRIMS databases.

  • Experience in the selection of equipment, materials, and the preparation and assembling of engineering design change packages, calculations, and specifications.

  • Able to read and understand Mechanical, P&ID, Flow diagrams, Electrical wiring, and schematics drawings.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Familiarity with the nuclear standard design process, and experience reviewing and approving engineering drawings.

  • Experience with electrical system design including low and medium voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motor, relays, etc.).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Capable of being badged for unescorted access to a nuclear station.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics and the following minimum job relevant experience, applicable Navy nuclear experience equally acceptable:

  • Associate level – Some internship experience preferred
  • Staff level – 2 years of experience
  • Senior level – 4 years of experience
  • Principal level – 6 years of experience

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to maintain a position on the Fermi Emergency Response Organization ERO in support of the Radiological Emergency Response Plan RERP.
  • Must be able to pass all phases of In-Processing including a background investigation, psychological screening, appropriate radiation worker/respiratory training and be medically certifiable drug and alcohol screen.
  • Physical capability to work in the plant i.e. climb stairs, work in hot environment, work in radiation/contamination areas.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
