Summary The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated individuals for a Supervisory Nurse (Research Specialist) position within the Office of the Clinical Director, Division of Intramural Research (DIR). This position plays a significant role managing a team of professionals providing support to clinical branches. For more information, visit Responsibilities Supervises a team of Research Nurses. Collaborates with Investigators and serves as an Associate Investigator on Division of Intramural Research clinical research protocols. Guides healthcare staff in the execution of clinical research protocols. Provides leadership in support of clinical and research activities to ensure patient safety, address clinical needs and ensure protocol integrity and accurate data collection. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify for a Supervisory Nurse (Research Specialist) GS-0610-14 position, you must possess the following: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U. S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or you obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. AND ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing leadership and specialized nursing care in a clinical research environment; monitoring research participant responses to study and clinical treatment and reporting potential adverse events to research team; developing and implementing program outreach and patient recruitment initiatives for research programs; recruiting and screening new patients and assessing their eligibility for clinical trials; collecting research data/samples and managing specific nursing aspects of clinical protocols within a research program; providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate along with other health care professionals; advising staff, and role modeling professional practices, collaborations and effective communications; directing and performing nursing quality assurance and quality control activities as they relate to protocol adherence, protocol monitoring, data collection, data abstraction, and data analysis; and discussing with patients, volunteers, and family members the basis of treatment protocols, clinical trials, or research studies as well as the roles of various team members, protocol specifics and anticipated schedule of events; delegating tasks to allied nursing personnel.
