Statistics Supplemental Instruction Leader (Continuing Education Teacher - Hourly)

**FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT**

The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban and Community Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting low income and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to provide workers with the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service. Through SLU's Murphy Institute, the School: 1) collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to provide workers with the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement, and 2) provides educational and research services to the labor movement and the broader community.

Students in selected SLU programs take part in a mandatory two-week bridge program that introduces them to foundational academic literacy competencies and habits for academic success. In addition, Supplemental Instruction (SI) will be available to the students during their SLU courses. The SI leader will facilitate out-of-class sessions to enhance students' success. The SLU

Learning Hub seeks to hire a Statistics Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader to develop and teach the bridge curriculum and provide suitable small and large group instruction to students.

Reporting to the Associate Director of the SLU Learning Hub, the Statistics Supplemental Instruction Leader will be responsible for assisting with and developing a curriculum for the two-week bridge program that will introduce students to foundational Quantitative Reasoning competencies and habits for academic success.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Act as the lead instructor in the bridge program, administer, and grade a post-bridge student assessment.

Act as an SI leader in students' courses, attend class sessions, lead mandatory SI sessions, and meet with students in one-to-one sessions.

Work closely with the Learning Hub's Associate Director and collaborate with faculty members.

May administer and grade pre-bridge assessments.

Participate in assessments of the SI component of the program and attend regular program team meetings.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Minimum:

Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred:

Enrollment in a PhD or MA program strongly preferred

Experience developing curricula to support students' quantitative literacy

Experience teaching in a classroom setting

Experience leading small group workshops, preferably as an SI leader

Tutoring experience

Knowledge using online platforms, including Zoom and Blackboard

Willingness and ability to work evening hours and weekends

**COMPENSATION**

The hourly rate for this position is **$47** for a maximum of 15 hours per week.
