Description
UPMC Somerset is seeking at Full-time Registered Nurse to support the Same Day Services areas which also include the PACU & GI Departments. This role will work 8-hour shifts with variable start times and includes rotating on-call requirements. Under the general supervision of the Director, Coordinator or Manager, the Registered Nurse plans, assesses, implements and evaluates nursing care of patients in the assigned area. The Registered Nurse is expected to have leadership skills to supervise other personnel. The Registered Nurse performs and delegates patient care and non-patient care activities as required for the daily operation of the department.
**Responsibilities:**
Upholds professional standards as a Registered Nurse.
Evaluates patient issues and ranks their needs using critical thinking skills.
Adjusts patient care plans based on assessments to address conditions or minimize risks.
Documents patient conditions and communicates updates to medical staff and services.
Interprets care policies and procedures to effectively organize patient care.
Remains skilled in both common and specialized nursing tasks.
Provides age-appropriate education to patients.
Engages in ongoing professional development on and off the unit.
Seeks ways to enhance workflow efficiency and reduce care costs.
Fosters a positive environment, ensuring good customer relations.
Safely assists patients in moving between lying, sitting, and standing positions.
Performs technical tasks independently, prioritizing safety, resource efficiency, and desired outcomes.
Non-essential duties include contributing to policy development, leading educational sessions, orienting new staff, and participating in committees.
Reports to the Director or Manager without overseeing any direct reports.
Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of PA.
BSN preferred
1 year critical care, general medical/surgical nursing, or previous phase 1 & 2 recovery experience.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registered Nurse (RN)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with Renewal
*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
