Responsibilities The Marion VA Health Care System is seeking a highly motivated Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit areas within Nursing Services, located in Marion, IL. that can multitask efficiently under demanding situations. The Nurse manager reports to the Associate Chief Nurse of Medicine and Surgery Services and works in conjunction with the Chief of Medicine in the evaluation and development of existing and new services in the facility. The incumbent has 24/7 responsibility for the overall administrative management of the area. The Nurse Manager will execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care. The Nurse Manager is accountable for adhering to established policies, exemplifying high quality standards of care, utilizing evidence-based nursing practice standards, and for demonstrating leadership and accomplishments when providing patient care. The Nurse Manager assists in the development and implementation of programs to improve the delivery of patient care. Plans, evaluates, recommends and implements new initiatives when appropriate. Provides an environment that fosters employees to perform to their full individual potential, promotes a culture of staff empowerment and transformational leadership. The incumbent demonstrates a high level of clinical expertise, leadership and creative approaches to management. Serves as a resource and role model to the staff. Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative skills in a high stress environment. Specific responsibilities of practice include planning, administering and directing nursing care to adult and geriatric patients. The Nurse Manager supervises and provides oversight for staffing, counseling and disciplinary actions. Selects and hire employees according to established guidelines. He/she must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. The Nurse Manager is responsible to ensure that the highest possible quality of care is achieved and that a safe, therapeutic environment is provided. He/she is administratively responsible to the ACN and responsible for other team members, i. e. RNs, LPNs and Intermediate Care Technicians. The Nurse Manager works closely to ensure sufficient clinical staff employ safe, competent, quality, and experienced nursing skills to coordinate multifaceted care within the realms of Professional Practice Standards and VA policy. PLEASE NOTE: These positions require Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications. If selected, Applicants will provide proof of current certifications prior to employment. Only BLS certification which included Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and ACLS certification obtained from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Military Treatment Training Network (MTN) will be accepted. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as I
