Unit Clerk - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)/Special Care Nursery

Akron General, a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility, understands that each labor and delivery experience is unique and requires careful thought and personal attention. This is why Akron General has a comprehensive team of caregivers that are ready to meet the needs of both mom and baby. Caregivers focus on delivering safe and quality care, while creating the best experience possible. Akron General has a Level III Perinatal Center, which means it's ready for any type of delivery and need for babies, including onsite NICU services staffed by Akron Children's Hospital neonatologists.

**A caregiver in this position works varying shifts.**

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide direct nursing care.

Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for a given patient population.

Assessments: complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.

Planning: develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.

Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.

Evaluation: participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement of care and participate in the quality improvement process.

Leadership/professional development: delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person/role model/mentor, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications, maintain applicable certification/licensure and obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.

Department specific duties: complete admission assessments of maternal and/or infant patients, communicate changes in patient condition and patient care/unit issues, ensure JCAHO Core Measures related to nursing care are achieved, incorporate patient safety goals and complete all paper and electronic records.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Within one year of hire: completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and STABLE certification.

Within six months of hire: completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).
