JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, plans, directs and evaluates total nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy.

Scheduled hours: 32 hours a week. Monday 8-5. Saturday/Sunday 7a-7p,

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Defines and maintains the standards of nursing practice within the Muckleshoot Health Clinic; assesses the quality of care rendered.

2. Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services with the position's control. Observes and supports clinic policy.

3. Trains, monitors and evaluates the performance of medical assistant and other nursing staff; makes recommendations for appropriate action.

4. Serves as spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the clinic with processional nursing and related organizations. Participates in appropriate meetings and committees.

5. Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing and directing the nursing functions within the Health Clinic.

6. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension. Initiates and implements patient care plan; maintains acceptable standards of patient care.

7. Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees. Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution. Assist with patient flow within clinic.

8. Creates a working climate that provides and promotes growth and job satisfaction for personnel.

9. Prepares equipment and aids physician during treatment and examination of patient. Accurately and promptly implements physician's orders; administers treatments, medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly.

10. Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting and documentation in medical record.

11. Participates in planning changes and improvements and in the clinic's safety programs.

12. Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.

13. Participates in orientation and in-service training for clinical personnel; evaluates the performance of personnel with recommendations for appropriate action.

14. Consistently maintains and enforces confidentiality. Displays concern and initiative; is resourceful and calm in emergencies.

15. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with other clinic staff, other departments visitors, and community. Supports collaboration with healthcare professionals serving community.

16. Develops, facilitates and participates in patient education activities, health fairs and outreach programs.

17. Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the Division's Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from an accredited Registered Nursing program and two (2) years of clinical experience is required. A valid Washington state driver's license and a Washington State license as a Registered Nurse is required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Knowledge of:

Medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.

Equipment, supplies and materials needed for medical treatment.

Basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.

Health care system structure and function.

Infectious disease management, control and safety standards.

Effective supervision.

Medical record documentation.

Basic pharmacology.

Human systems (wellness, illness, growth and development, nutrition, behavioral, psycho-social and family systems).

Skill in:

Triage.

Phlebotomy.

Physical assessment.

Communication (oral and written).

Problem solving.

Interviewing patients.

Time management.

Crisis intervention.

Initiating appropriate emergency response.

Maintaining and establishing working relationships and working with diverse populations and cultures.

Handling a number of tasks simultaneously.

Reading and following written medical orders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. Work is performed mostly in a clinic setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to talk, see and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, walk, bend, balance, crouch, kneel, reach and twist; and frequently use both hands to finger, handle, or feel objects including medical instruments, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift, move, push/pull and/or carry up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and far acuity and the ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet

Licenses or Certifications Required
