**Job Summary:**

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing on-call coverage for the Vanderbilt Transplant Center for all potential abdominal donor organ offers. Collaborates with organ procurement organizations and the transplant team to coordinate the logistics of the transplant.

Hours:

The candidate selected for this position must be willing to work 8-hour evening shifts and/or a 24-hour shift and/or available for on-call during scheduled consecutive workdays/hours.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences:

- Critical care RN or Transplant RN experience

- Excellent communication skills

- Previous organ/tissue donation experience and/or certified procurement transplant coordinator preferred.

- Team player

- BSN prepared RN

Department Summary:

Vanderbilt Health is one of the oldest and largest kidney transplant programs in the country, providing patients with excellent outcomes and access to innovative new research and treatments. By pioneering new approaches, we are able to serve more patients, including high-risk patients who may not be candidates for transplantation at other medical centers. Our specialists also perform lifesaving dual-organ transplants for patients with liver- kidney or heart-kidney dysfunction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Provides call coverage in order to screen all potential cadaver kidney and liver offers

- Educates patients and families about the transplant process, evaluation and waiting phases, and long-term follow-up and care, as well as, living donation when applicable.

- Ensures the most current practices of transplantation nursing are utilized and providing system improvements to support optimal transplant outcomes.

- Ensures referring physician is kept informed about all phases of the transplant process.

- The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

- Transplant Coordination (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of transplant coordination in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering coordination services without requiring support and instruction from others. Possess sufficient knowledge to provide interventions that maintain or improve physiology, psychological and social health and interventions that facilitate and optimize behavioral changes and treatment adherence with complex, lifelong therapies. Advocates supporting patients and families in planning, implementation and evaluation of care. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

- Nursing Patient Assessment & Evaluation (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of patient assessments and evaluations in practical applications of a difficult nature. Conducts primary care patient interviews and physical examinations. Conducts inquiry with a thorough series of questions when patients state an ailment or complaint in order to accurately identify and elaborate on the problem. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to role model and coach less experienced peers.

- Nursing Patient Education (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of patient education in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of providing patient health education services without requiring instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
