Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Responsibilities This Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit position is located in Nursing Service at the Providence campus. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Duties include but are not limited to: Provide high quality, specialized nursing care to critically ill patients who commonly present with multisystem comorbidities such as acute renal failure, acute respiratory failure, cardiopulmonary arrest, PEA, hemorrhage, DKA, GI bleeding, SIADH, liver failure, AMI. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient assessment and care which may involve IV drug infusions and nurse driven titration, hemodynamic monitoring, rhythm recognition and arrhythmia detection, assisting with central line insertion, transporting and caring for patients during off unit testing, tracheostomy care, ventilator care, recovering patients post conscious sedation, ostomy care, Foley care, medication administration, and care of feeding tubes. Assistance with bedside procedures i. e., bronchoscopy, upper and lower GI procedure; assist with Swan Ganz catheter insertion, TEE, and cardioversion, which are in the critical or acute phase. Maintain knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment including titration of IV medications to include moderate sedation. Utilizes all aspects of the nursing practice and evidence-based practice in order to develop individual plans of care for patients in the ICU. Modifies patient's plan of care based on their physical, cognitive, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs. Promotes effective communication while functioning within a collaborative and interdisciplinary team setting. Incorporates the Veteran and family member/caretaker(s) in patient education that meets their individual educational needs and learning style. Functions as a patient advocate and performs cares and duties with the utmost integrity adhering to policies and procedures and following all protocols, guidelines and standards of practice (SOP). Serve as a member of the Code Blue and Rapid Response Teams for the Medical Center and is required to maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications. Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, night shift position. The Providence Healthcare System is an acute care facility operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week. While most tours of duty are scheduled during the day, the possibility of working evenings, nights and weekends does exist. May be subject to satisfactory completion of our credentialing process. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
