Job Description:

The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at the University of Florida in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM) seeks a full-time dedicated Registered Nurse I to join our team. In this role, you will deliver patient care in line with RN License standards across various primary care teams and specialty clinics, including Women's Health, Sports Medicine and Acute Care, Immunization Clinic, and Psychiatry. Your responsibilities will include performing treatments and procedures, triaging patients, performing nurse visits, administering medications, screening and counseling patients, collecting and documenting vital signs, visual acuity, and point-of-care testing as directed by providers. Additionally, you will provide independent care to patients following practice protocols and standing orders. You will also support providers by coordinating clinical activities and interfacing with SHCC providers and Counseling and Wellness Center counselors.

RN Responsibilities:

Provides RN coverage for various Primary Care and Specialty teams for Student Health. These include Women's Health, Sports Medicine and Acute Care, the Immunization Clinic, and Psychiatry.

Coordinate prescription refills in collaboration with the providers in your assigned clinic.

Assist with medication Pre-Authorizations.

Assist patients with telephone management of medication concerns, side effects, and referrals when indicated.

Assist patients with laboratory referrals and results to the providers.

Acquires and maintains current knowledge of clinical nursing practice, including a working knowledge of emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies.

Perform nurse visits.

Considers factors relating to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.

Provides using SHCC Nursing guidelines, Standing Orders, policies, and procedures.

Monitors patient response to treatments. Provides treatment procedures and administers medications as directed by providers.

Clinical Duties and Triaging:

Assess patients' Vital Signs and provide patient education in general health maintenance and preventive care. Document all care and services within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Epic.

Starts IVs, performs wound care and dressings and administers medications.

Screens and counsels patients and collect visual acuity when necessary.

Performs Point-of-Care testing.

Facilitates patient flow to providers in a timely, efficient, and customer-friendly manner.

Serves specialized patient populations: transgender, eating disorder, obesity, anxiety, and depression as needed.

Triage a high volume of patients by telephone and in person, ensuring their health problems are appropriately and promptly managed.

Obtain and review intake records, previous provider records, and current medical/mental health history to determine acuity and need for services.

Collaborate closely with clinical providers in the various clinics regarding high-risk patients to ensure continuity of care and safety.

Communicate with patients to ensure compliance with care and follow-up.

Educate, Counseling, and Referrals:

Assist with referrals from the various primary care and specialty clinics within student health, CWC, and community psychiatric and medical services.

Maintain patient contact to ensure services were received and documented.

Understand and contribute to the implementation of departmental and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a multicultural environment.

Educates and counsels patients on their specific medical illness, injury, and chronic condition.

Promotes health and wellness through assessment strategies and ongoing education/counseling.

Documents interventions in patient's health record.

Coordination of Services and other duties as assigned:

Coordinates Services in their home team, including but not limited to providing consultation with SHCC providers and CWC counseling staff regarding SHCC Psychiatry services.

Coordinates care of specialized patient population: transgender, eating disorder, obesity, anxiety, and depression as needed

Attend SHCC Team meetings and Nursing Staff meetings. Participate in programs of quality improvement, peer review, and continuing education.

Perform other related duties as required.

Schedule:Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 hours/week. Hours and days can vary according to the SHCC's needs - Provides weekend coverage as assigned.
