**Responsibilities**
The Registered Nurse provides leadership and co-ordination to the health care team to assure the provision of high quality, cost-effective service to patients, physicians, visitors and appropriate customer groups. Serves as safe clinical practitioner using independent but collaborative judgment
**Essential Functions:**
Maintain a safe surgical environment, which includes sterile technique
Assisting anesthesia and/or the surgeon before, during or after cases
Preparing the operating room ie: equipment setup
Preparing Lab specimens
Ensuring instruments, implants, supplies are ready based on the type of surgery
Be able to circulate and or scrub a case based on the day's assignment
Provide Conscious Sedation to Endoscopy patients
Upon completion of the procedure, the patient shall be evaluated for any possible damage from positioning which will include assessment of the skin. The abnormal condition shall be reported to the surgeon and treatment and documentation shall be carried out.
Providing visualization of the operative site by the following:
Appropriate placement and securing of retractors with or without padding
Packing with sponges
Digital manipulation of tissue
Suctioning, irrigating, or sponging
Manipulation of suture materials (e. g., loops, tags, running sutures)
Proper use of body mechanics to prevent obstruction of the surgeon's view
Utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with hemostasis
Clamping and/or cauterizing vessels or tissue
Tying and/or ligating clamped vessels or tissue
Applying hemostatic clips
Placing local hemostatic agents
Applying tourniquets and demonstrating awareness of the indications/contraindications for use with knowledge of side effects of extended use
Applying vessel loops
Applying noncrushing clamps
Applying direct digital pressure
Participating in volume replacement or autotransfusion techniques as appropriate
Utilizing appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes
Utilizing running or interrupted sutures with absorbable or nonabsorbable material of wound layers, including muscle and fascia.
Utilizing subcuticular closure technique with or without adhesive skin closure strips
Closing skin with method per surgeon's directive (suture, staples, etc)
Postoperative subcutaneous injection of local anesthetic per surgeon's directive
Selecting and applying appropriate wound dressings, including the following:
Liquid or spray occlusive materials
Absorbent material affixed with tape or circumferential wrapping.
Immobilizing dressing (soft or rigid)
Providing assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue
Continuously and systematically assesses the health care status of the patient, prioritizing and reprioritizing patient care based on assessment.
Initiates and maintains an individual plan of care to meet identified patient problems or needs, based on analysis of assessment data, standards of nursing care and practice.
Collaborates with patient, primary care providers, family, internal and community resources to coordinate patient discharge/transfer needs.
Prioritizes, performs and delegates direct and/or indirect patient interventions necessary for the stabilization of the trauma patient.
Prioritizes and performs patient interventions necessary for triaging patients.
Participates in patient and family teaching.
Uses critical thinking skills to recognize/respond to emergency situations.
Coordinates and promotes continuity of patient care through effective communication and documentation.
Delegates to available individual staff based on ability/competence and scope of practice.
Is aware and demonstrates utilization of proper infection control standards and practices.
Is aware and demonstrates utilization of proper body mechanics for self and staff.
Must be open to additional responsibilities as required by administration.

**Qualifications**
**Required Education and Experience:**
Graduate from an accredited BSN Program
**Required Licensure and Certifications:**
Licensed as a Registered Nurse granted by the State of Oregon Board of Nursing (OSBN)
Current AHA BLS certification
Initial certification as a Certified First Assistant (CSFA) based upon satisfactory performance on the national certifying examination following completion of an accredited program in surgical assisting or another pathway acceptable to the NBSTSA
CSFA's maintain their certification by earning seventy-five (75) hours of approved continuing education in a four (4) year period or by successfully retaking the certifying examination at the conclusion of a four (4) year period
Current AHA ACLS certification obtained within three (3) months of hire
