General Summary:

The Clinical Decision Unit is a 8 bed open concept Unit. This is a curtained space that has a length of stay of less then 24 hours. There is a quick turn over of relatively stable patients. The Clinical Decision Unit is a space to care for patients that a decision on discharge from the Emergency Department cannot be determined without further care. This unit helps further evaluate patients so a discharge or admission decision can be made. The unit has cardiac monitoring capabilities. The patient population must be hemodynamically stable, have the ability to mobilize independently and not have any contagious diseases due to the curtained space. Frequently overflow observation patients from the Emergency Department are moved to this area to decompress the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department Leadership team provides oversight for the Clinical Decision Unit. Employees are cross trained in the ED and CDU.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
