Hours: 7:30pm to 7:00am

Summary:

The Registered Professional Nurse assigned to the Clearview Treatment Unit renders professional and comprehensive nursing care to patients by assessing and treating actual or potential health problems. Functions in a multidisciplinary team setting, offering a variety of supportive services to the patients served. Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation as appropriate to the ages of patients served, based on the areas of clinical practice. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital/staff information. Strives to incorporate the philosophy and mission of Mount St. Mary's Hospital and to incorporate the Hospital's goal of: Quality care, in a personal manner with total regard for individual human dignity.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital consists of multiple locations and associate may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing required

Limited Permit by New York State Department of Education (Limited Permit must be completed and on file)

Must possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) within sixty (60) days from time of placement.

Bachelor of Science (BSN) preferred

EXPERIENCE

On the job training provided

Previous psychology and chemical dependency experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Maintain logs/patient charts

Proof-read documents

Schedule appointments

Clinical computer information systems

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposed to: infection from disease-bearing specimens; animal diseases, odors, bites; hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment; odorous chemicals and specimens; housekeeping cleaning agents/chemicals; unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness); hot or noisy equipment

May be exposed to: infections and contagious diseases; toxic chemicals (due to photocopier)

Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases

Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements

Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances

Subject to varying and unpredictable situations

Handles emergency or crisis situations

May perform emergency care

Subject to: many interruptions; long irregular hours

Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries

Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient

Handles absentee replacement on short notice

Flexibility in scheduled working hours/days to meet needs of unit

Handles emergency/crisis situations (potential patient violence)

Occasional request for RN to take patients on walks/outings

Required Protective Equipment:

Eye/face/mask protection may be required

Sterile/non-sterile medical gloves may be required

Utility Gloves/gowns may be required

Hair covering may be required
