Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).*To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position.**Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State**.Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will also have long-term care experience.

Duties Description The incumbent will provide health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals, families and other groups and develop health improvement programs. Implement infection control protocols and procedures and provide related consultation and instruction to staff. Maintain and update charts, records, and other documentation, consistent with agency, State, and federal requirements; and may collect data and perform activities to support medical research. Monitor inventory and ensure that standards for medications, solutions, supplies and equipment are maintained to meet nursing care needs. Provide clinical supervision and instruction to nursing and direct care staff. Responsible for appropriate nursing activities, skills, and/or procedures to nursing and direct care staff; and make clinical rounds to assess individuals' nursing care needs and observe and evaluate the provision of nursing services. Act as a liaison to outside agencies and providers to ensure continuity of care and the necessary follow-up for individuals' needs and may provide instruction to providers on resident needs. May perform the full range of supervisory duties over LPN's and direct care staff; provide information to Registered Nurse Supervisors; and prepare or contribute to the preparation of reports and performance evaluations for lower-level staff involved in nursing care activities. Must be flexible and available to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.

Additional Comments At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
