The Program Manager - Patient Education will develop and coordinate the activities of the Patient Education Program, including duties related to the creation, design, and revision of patient education materials. They define ongoing patient education needs in collaboration with subject matter experts, clinical staff, and Gillette patients/families and develop evidence-based education materials to effectively address these needs. The incumbent assumes the responsibility for quality and process improvement initiatives related to patient education. They collaborate with the leaders of the Spine Institute and Cerebral Palsy Institute, prioritizing the advancement of patient education related to spine and cerebral palsy, developing systems that will be applied to all patient education. This is a FT remote position during standard business hours, however, the selected candidate must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin and have the ability to work onsite in St. Paul, MN as needed.

Compensation & Benefits Information:

The annual salary range for this opportunity is $91,062 to $136,593, with a median salary of $113,817. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience and internal equity. Salary is just one component of the compensation package for employees. Core Responsibilities and Duties:

Project Management

Defines ongoing patient education needs in collaboration with clinical staff, education and professional development specialist, and other key staff as appropriate

Manages, prioritizes, and executes incoming project requests to ensure productivity, positive program reputation, and the timely completion of project requests for stakeholders

Maintains close records of project deliverables, timelines, and budgets while appropriately engaging with and updating project stakeholders

Develops strategies for measuring, monitoring, and evaluating the effectiveness of patient education materials

Technical/Scientific Communication

Finds, critiques, and synthesizes peer-reviewed, evidence-based information to support patient education strategies and creation of patient education materials

Provides consultation and support to clinical staff regarding patient education best practices and strategies for creating effective patient education materials

Consults with subject matter experts and relevant literature to draft patient education materials (e. g., written content, video scripts) that are communicated in an appropriate format and knowledge level for the target audience

Leverages knowledge and experience in information design to create compelling multimedia patient education materials (e. g., printed handouts, animated videos with voiceover narration)

Collaborates with Marketing & Communications to ensure adherence to Gillette voice, brand, and alignment with marketing initiatives

Develops written content/script and defines communication goals, target audience, project deliverables, and branding guidelines when working with contracted individuals on patient education materials

Stakeholder Engagement

Engages with subject matter experts, clinical care staff, and Gillette patients and families to identify educational needs

Designs and conducts usability tests with key stakeholders to improve the effectiveness and relevancy of patient education materials

Builds meaningful relationships with patient education stakeholders (e. g., clinical staff, subject matter experts, marketing and communications team members, education and professional development specialist, and patients/families) to advance the patient education program

Actively involved in committees, task forces, meetings, and the work of the department. Provides leadership and facilitation to groups focused on the creation of patient education materials.

Accurate and Efficient Work

Demonstrates accuracy, efficiency, and completeness in products and processes.

Implements activities detailed in annual plans and evaluates effectiveness. Modifies plan as needed. Utilizes resources responsibly and effectively.

Competence in Technology Required of the Position

Demonstrates understanding of the tools and systems needed to accomplish work. This includes expertly navigating databases for science and biomedical topics (e. g., PubMed, CINAHL), using a citation manager software program (e. g., EndNote), creating multimedia education materials (e. g., Canva), and using markup languages in component content management systems (e. g. XML)

Utilizes critical thinking and technical communication knowledge to support to evaluation of innovative technologies

Professional Development

Participates in activities that promote professional growth, ease of access, quality improvement and patient satisfaction

Qualifications:

Required

Bachelor's degree in science or related medical field

Minimum five years of experience designing and developing education materials

Minimum two years' experience with digital learning and authoring tools, LMS, video creation tools, learning libraries and other learning platforms

Formal training in technical or scientific communication

Previous experience with project development and management

Previous experience translating complex medical information to patients/families, preferably in a pediatric setting

Previous experience with component content management systems (e. g., CCMS, LMS, LCMS)

Preferred

Master's degree in communications, science, or related field

Experience developing training in a variety of formats including e-learning, webinars, blended and self-guided study

Experience in a clinical setting

History of interdisciplinary collaboration

Previous experience engaging with medically complex populations

Previous experience with clinical research and usability testing

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High level knowledge of technical/scientific communication, plain language, education, adult learning methodologies, and agile learning development

Ability to critically evaluate and synthesize published evidence

Ability to design and conduct usability tests with key stakeholders

Ability to create high quality multimedia education materials

Excellent critical thinking and communication skills

Excellent time management and prioritization skills

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
