The Department of Pediatrics at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) seeks a Vice Chair for Medical Education to play a vital leadership role ensuring that the Department remains a pioneer in Pediatric medical education. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished, collaborative physician-leader with a proven commitment to and passion for the academic mission of Pediatrics and demonstrated achievement advancing excellence and innovation in medical education.

The Vice Chair for Medical Education is responsible for fulfilling the Department's mission by preparing medical students, residents and postdoctoral fellows for their careers and ensuring the Department is respected by its peers for innovative and outstanding teaching, and by demonstrating extraordinary compassion and commitment to the service of patients, the medical profession, and the community. It is in this context that the Vice Chair will provide leadership and engage in continuous quality improvement for pediatric medical education programs and initiatives across the medical education continuum: undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education.

Our educational mission is focused on the development of the next generation of multi-talented physicians who will become leaders in patient care, education and research. RWJMS enrolls 175 medical students each year, all rotating in Pediatrics for their clinical clerkship and most choosing electives in specialty and subspecialty areas. We have outstanding ACGME-accredited training programs, including a pediatric residency with 33 residents and subspecialty fellowship training programs.

The Vice Chair will lead Department efforts in admissions, curriculum, and all other areas related to Pediatric medical education. S/he will also manage the department education budget. The Vice Chair will report to the Department Chair of Pediatrics as part of the leadership team along with Vice Chairs for Clinical and Academic Development. Professionalism is also a high priority within the Department. The new Vice Chair will bring proven ability to cultivate inclusive and engaging work and learning environments that lead to the successful recruitment and retention of a diverse group of learners.

The successful candidate will be a physician-leader with at least 5-10 years of experience in pediatric medical education, who is excited by the opportunity to play a leadership role ensuring the highest quality learning experience. An M. D. with a record of academic achievement to meet the criteria for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor at RWJMS is required.

The Department of Pediatrics is composed of 123 full-time and more than 200 volunteer faculty members, organized into 18 divisions covering all of the pediatric subspecialties in conjunction with four key surgical services. In addition, our centers of excellence include The Boggs Center on Developmental Disabilities, Child Health Sciences, and the Institute for the Study of Child Development. The Division of Hematology and Oncology is located in the Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ, the only NCI designated cancer center in the state of New Jersey. Adjacent is the PSE&G Children's Specialized Hospital, which is one of the country's largest inpatient acute rehabilitation facilities for children. The department is undergoing a renaissance
