SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION/UNIT
Through scholarship, teaching, and community, the UCLA Principal Leadership Institute (PLI) prepares tomorrow's leaders to pursue the potential of an education system that embraces and adapts to difference. We train future leaders to cultivate equity and confront systemic racism, inequity, and to reshape how classrooms and educational institutions function. SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Department of Education at UCLA seeks applications for a temporary, part-time lecturer to teach within the PLI graduate program. The UCLA Principal Leadership Institute (PLI) trains and supports diverse groups of individuals committed to the principles of academic excellence, equity, and integrity as a way to maximize achievement and opportunity for students in urban schools. PLI is a rigorous 14-month program aligned with the California Administrative Professional Expectations (CAPEs) that prepares the next generation of urban school leaders. The program grants a Master's degree and completion of the courses required for the California Tier 1 Administrative Credential. The program is designed to attract outstanding educators who have administrative interests and recognized potential.
Course(s) include the following, and the lecturer may also be assigned additional courses according to the instructional needs in the department and in conformity with departmental lecturer workload policies:
ED 420A (co-teach) - Critical Issues and Theories in Curriculum and Instruction. The purpose of this course is to study, explore and analyze how school leaders meet the needs of marginalized students through leading a school community in the implementation of curriculum and instruction. Through a social justice anti-biased lens, candidates will examine the philosophical, ethical, political and cultural underpinnings of curriculum and instruction theory, research and practice. Emphasis is placed on helping students create an understanding of how belief systems, racism and anti-Blackness influence leadership practices, ideals and ideas around curriculum and instruction. The course will focus on curriculum and instructional leadership as a democratic and collaborative practice viewed through a culturally relevant and responsive lens.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities will include lecturing, conducting regularly scheduled office hours, and the writing and grading of assignments and exams. Other responsibilities will include attending regularly PLI faculty meetings and collaborating with other instructors to enhance the program's vision.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A MA degree in Education in required
- Must have at least three years of experience as a principal in public schools.
Preferred qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Doctorate degree in Education is highly preferred.
- Experience facilitating learning for adults and/or prior teaching in higher education
