Description

The Nutrition Program Educator delivers public education for improving healthy food and lifestyle choices among families and individuals, encompassing all age groups throughout Schoharie, Otsego, and Montgomery Counties. Nutrition education may take place at Association offices, county agencies or in participant homes. Program marketing and recruitment of participants is also included as part of the workday. The individual will collect and manage participant data, ensuring confidentiality at all times. The individual will assist supervisor with program activities as assigned.

The Nutrition Program Educator represents the association to diverse public audiences. The Educator is an employee of the Association, an affiliate of Cornell Cooperative Extension and Cornell University, and as such is employed under the policies and supervision of the Association. The position is grant-funded and efforts are delivered in fulfillment of funding. Funding for the position is through a grant from the Rural Health Education Network of Schoharie, Otsego & Montgomery Counties (RHENSOM) in contract with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schoharie and Otsego

Required Qualifications:

Associate's Degree or equivalent. High School Diploma/ GED and one year transferable program/functional experience can substitute for Associate's Degree.

Experience relevant to the role of the position, including but not limited to, any of the following:

teaching non-formal educational programs, with a preference for experience in nutrition, healthy lifestyles, or related topics.

Must be comfortable purchasing and preparing food and reviewing and following recipes.

Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences (one-on-one and in group)

An earnest desire to empower households and communities to create positive change.

Demonstrated experience and ability to work independently and as part of a team with internal and external partners at multiple levels within organizations and across communities.

Demonstrated ability and willingness to build relationships with diverse audiences and work to cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment for program participants and colleagues.

Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, and evaluate informal educational programs for diverse audiences individually or in groups.

Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks under changing priorities, and balance work appropriately between priorities according to those set with the team and immediate supervisor.

Ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and accessibly through oral, written, visual, and digital technologies.

Ability and willingness to work with a high degree of integrity, accuracy, organization, sound professional judgment, and the ability to handle confidential, sensitive information.

Must have a basic level of proficiency with the software necessary for performing work responsibilities: Windows, Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.

Ability to operate office equipment such as computer, calculator, fax, printers, laminators, shredder.

Ability to maintain files current and orderly.

Ability to identify problems and suggest solutions.

Have a willingness to learn new skills and information.

Valid NYS Driver's License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Ability to carry supplies and equipment, including by stairs and in outdoor settings with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Nutrition-related knowledge, experience, background.

Food safety training or certification.

Experience in adult and youth education or other relevant work experience.

Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place.

Experience establishing and working with community stakeholders

Experience with marketing or recruitment.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Program Delivery - 85%

Identify and utilize existing program materials and educational framework to teach targeted adult and youth participants in the Nutrition Program.

Implement lesson plans using current and approved curricula and supplemental materials and tailor appropriate programming based on identified participant needs.

Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to recruit and graduate the targeted number of adult and youth participants in the Nutrition Program.

Collaborate with community agencies that serve the target audience to deliver education.

Interact with program participants representing CCE in a professional manner at all times.

Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

Serve as a subject matter resource on nutrition subjects and provide standard educational responses to program participants.

Employ a variety of methods and strategies to inform participants, community agencies, and services, about Cornell Cooperative Extension services.

Administrative Coordination/Operation - 10%

Maintain accurate records of class participants, complete reports, accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process in a timely manner.

Collect enrollment entry and exit data for all participants.

Maintain confidentiality of participant information and data collected.

Submit program expense reports in a timely manner.

Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board and others as necessary.

Professional Improvement - 5%

In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.

Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required. Trainings will require travel throughout the region.

Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.
