Summary You will work as the Nurse Manager for the Community Living Center at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Kerrville Campus. You will be responsible for all Nursing care assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation issues for two of the four residential Neighborhoods on the Kerrville Campus. Responsibilities You will report directly to the Chief of Nursing Services for the Geriatric Extended Care service whose service line includes long term care, short term skilled care, dementia, hospice, palliative, and respite care residents. You will be responsible for the first-line supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for the operations of the center, ensuring that subordinate personnel (RNs, LVNs and NAs) provide timely nursing care which complies with generally accepted standards of practice. You will have the continuing responsibility for all the following functions: 1) Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and preparing schedules for completion or work; 2) assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the assignments, and the capabilities of subordinates; 3) evaluating the performance of subordinates; 4) giving advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative manners; 5) hearing and resolving complaints of subordinates and referring more serious complaints not resolved to higher level supervisors; 6) identifying developmental and training needs of subordinates and providing or making provisions for such development and training; and 7) monitoring and managing scheduling timekeeping automated processes. You will actively assist in the annual Staffing Methodology and Business Plan processes. In addition, you will have the responsibility for making recommendations for appointments, advancements, or reassignments of subordinates; and recommending and/or taking disciplinary action when appropriate. You will be responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. You will actively develop and manage collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians. You will be responsible for staffing your units on a continual basis, 24/7/12/365 and working with the staffing coordinator at the Audie L. Murphy campus and the nursing leaders at Kerrville to share staff resources. You will participate on service and medical center committees and task forces to improve nursing practice and patient care. You will have an integral role in supporting and facilitating student nurse clinical experiences, as well as orienting new Nurse Managers, Assistant Nurse Managers, Charge Nurses and front line nursing staff. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They influence care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. The NM is responsible for addressing performance and/or conduct issues, conducts investigations, collaborates with Employee Labor Relations, Union partners, and other offices to address concerns/allegations. The NM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. The NM contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registere
