For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities. *Job Summary *Provides basic clinical and clerical support in the delivery of patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of education. The Medical Assistant experiences continued training of all aspects of the Medical Assistant role. - Assists with patient care within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant for rooming patients, medication/allergy reconciliation, pumps/meters downloads, refill of medications, authorizations, DME forms. - Provides administrative support including but not limited to scheduling, chart prep, referrals, check in/out, prior authorizations and transportation facilitation. - Accurately documents and communicates interventions and measurements, and communicates appropriately to health care provider. - Covers the front desk based on business needs. - Assists in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and a clean and safe work environment. - Checks equipment and supplies for expiration dates, electrical safety tags, intactness, and usability. - Cleans equipment and stores it in its proper place. - Reports equipment and supplies needing to be replaced or repaired to manager. - Stocks rooms, carts, cabinets, etc. as assigned. *Education: *Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic or Medic Certification OR relative experience as outlined below. * *In lieu of education requirement, at least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered. *Experience: *Relevant experience or Medical Assistant externship in a busy medical office. EPIC EMR experience. *Licensure, Certification, Registration: *Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 90 days of hire date or job transfer date. *Language Skills: *Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English.
