The LPN / LVN Pediatric Nurse functions under the supervision and guidance of the RN/Nursing Supervisor or Physician and participates in the multi-disciplinary process of providing care and treatment to patients and provides clinical support and technical assistance to the professional medical and other staff. The LPN is responsible for functioning within the scope of practice dictated by the respective Board of Nursing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Takes and records vital signs of pediatric patients
Prepares and gives injections and enemas; monitors catheters
Assists patients with bathing, dressing, and other personal hygiene
Assesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition
Assists physicians with patient office visits: including managing the front desk with phones, scheduling appointments, patient referrals, putting patients in rooms, interviewing patients, recording vital signs including pulse rate, blood pressure, height and weight, and enters information in patient's electronic medical record
Performs interventions according to priorities, plan of care, and the hospital/clinic policies and patient care outcome standard
Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient environment
Uses clinical judgment in evaluation activities to meet patient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing priorities
Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment
Administers immunizations
Has strong knowledge of pediatric pharmacology
Minimum Requirements:
Current LPN/LVN nursing license within the state of assignment
Minimum of one year pediatric clinical experience within the last three years preferred
Current PALS Card (per client and / or state requirement)
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
