The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) is the primary provider of public mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disabilities services for the City of Norfolk. A continuum of services spans from outreach and prevention through intensive psychiatric care, provided by highly clinically oriented service professionals with expertise in these service areas.

Today, the NCSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. The NCSB is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join t he Opioid Treatment Program in their Medical Services division. The Opioid Treatment Program provides medication-assisted treatment (methadone and buprenorphine) and counseling services to adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder. Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $59,393-$68,301

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

The Licensed Practical Nurse will function as a professional role model and must demonstrate team behavior and must be willing to promote a team-oriented environment.

The Licensed Practical Nurse will establish effective working relationships with professionals, patients, families, and others involved in the delivery of services.

Participates in the efficient provision of daily nursing service delivery in the Opioid Treatment Program and Buprenorphine Clinic.

Provides general medical and psychiatric nursing services including, but not limited to, crisis intervention, medication administration, intradermal injections, phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, vital sign determinations, mental status examinations, urine drug screens, and other assessments as required.

Administers and delivers medications in accordance with physician orders and documents activities in accordance with OTP and NCSB policies and procedures.

Daily, verifies opening quantity of methadone, buprenorphine, and naloxone stock; verifies and documents closing quantities of methadone, buprenorphine, and naloxone stock.

Collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team and community providers on an ongoing basis to facilitate the Opioid Treatment Program.

Assists the physician with patient evaluations, admissions, and interventions.

Orienting new employees to nursing and medical policies and procedures.

Participates in staff development activities and in-service trainings.

Perform other related duties, as required.

Education/Experience

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certifications may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

One year of experience in a medical environment performing patient care duties.

Additional Information & Requirements

Requires current unrestricted licensure by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or if licensed in another state to be eligible via Nursing Licensure Compact.

Must be in good standing with the Board of Nurse Examiners,

Must be certified or certifiable in CPR and Basic Life Support.

Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus for new hires.

Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

Temporary/seasonal and part-time employees are generally only eligible for employer provided parking and access to membership in credit union.

Retirement

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
