Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Education, assists in the development, organization,

implementation, and evaluation of courses and continuing education offerings, meeting requirements for awarding

contact hours based on Regulations of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Utilizes course outline in implementing course.

2. Maintains effective communication with Director of Education, Program Coordinator, colleagues and students.

3. Attends program meetings, as scheduled.

4. Teaches theory and/or clinical components of the course as contracted.

5. Demonstrates clinical competence and is educationally prepared to care for assigned population of clients.

6. Demonstrates competence in teaching the adult learner.

7. Prepares handouts and audiovisual materials as appropriate.

8. Gives feedback to students about course performance based on appropriate evaluation tools for course.

9. Evaluates programs and seminars provided for any needed revisions.

10. Updates competency assessment tools for coursework as needed.

11. Assists in evaluating data from student evaluations of course, facilities, materials and instruction.

12. Shares student evaluations of course with appropriate facility representatives.

13. Maintains expertise in area of clinical responsibility.

14. Provides career counseling; refers students to support services when appropriate.

15. Participates in faculty development programs as appropriate

16. Pursues continuing education through attendance at formal programs

17. Participates in appropriate professional organizations and community activities

18. Performs other related functions as necessary

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

EDUCATION: Masters degree required, current R. N. license in Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and current CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE: Requires two to three years progressively responsible clinical experience within the past five years; teaching experience preferred. Evidence of clinical competence in area of clinical instruction required.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: Demonstrated teaching abilities and interpersonal skills in the classroom and clinical settings.

Working Conditions

Cognitive: Ability to organize responsibilities, make decisions, and demonstrate critical thinking.

Sensory: Visual, hearing and tactile ability sufficient for observation and assessment.

Affective: Interpersonal abilities sufficient to interact with individuals, families and groups from a variety of social, emotional, cultural and intellectual backgrounds.

Psychomotor: Physical abilities sufficient to move from room to room and to maneuver in small spaces. Gross and fine motor abilities sufficient to provide safe and effective nursing care such as lift, move and position clients; use equipment and administer CPR.

Scope of Position Responsibilities

For Supervision: Responsible for the supervision of students within the course.

For Internal/External

Relationships: Must be able to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, peers, and individuals from cooperating agencies.

Limits of Authority: Functions independently within the broad scope of established department policies and goals; generally refers specific problems to the Course Coordinator and then the Division Coordinator as needed for clarification of operating policies and procedures.
