The American Heart Association's Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

The Association offers many resources to help you maintain work-life harmonization through your changing needs and life situations. **Internship Overview:**

Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

Internship Duration: **9/9/24 - 12/6/24**

Location: **Intern must be based in** **Houston, TX, or the immediate surrounding area** .

Salary: $23.00 per hour

**Internship Outcomes:**

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment

Opportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization

Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management

Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

**Responsibilities**

Tasks could include things like the following:

Support work around clinical and community impact priority issues including hypertension control, outpatient quality improvement programs, nutrition insecurity, community response, and tobacco/vaping.

Assist community impact team in communicating the impact of local work.

Understand the principles and practices of public health planning, research administration, and evaluation.

Deeper understanding of public health by increasing their awareness of cultural needs, and challenges of connecting resources to diverse populations.

Understand the benefits of strategic partnerships between health care professionals, businesses, and community-based organizations to improve population health.

Support clinical engagement, blood pressure program implementation, and help with nutrition access and advocacy campaign work, as needed.

Support Market implementation of hands-only CPR education through community-based events with staff and volunteers.

**Qualifications**

**Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in Public Health, Health, or other community health related major.**

**Bilingual in Spanish preferred.**

**Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.**

**Interest in public health, public policy, political institutions.**

Ability to learn quickly and have focused attention to detail.

Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.

Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.

Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection and reliable transportation.

**Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.**

**Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.**
