Description

Wage Range: $21.11 - $31.34 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

JOB SUMMARY:

Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital's Health & Healing principles. Assumes responsibility for care of patients under the supervision, direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse. Organizes and administers individualized patient care to patients within the unit assigned by the Registered Nurse. Participates in assessment of patient needs. Communicates with and functions as a member of the health care team. Provides basic, direct patient care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital. Participates in patient teaching to the degree consistent with the NAC's knowledge base. Documents care and applicable teaching provided. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to function on the unit. Par­tic­ipates in house wide and department specific performance improvement activ­i­ties. Uses an understanding of the pri­nciples of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and pro­vide age spe­cific treatment and care.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Requires Washington State Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) license and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

At the level consistent with the NAC's knowledge base, the ability to actively involve the patient and family members in decision making which affects the patient's outcome. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse, the ability to participate in the implementation of the interdisciplinary patient plan of care. Ability to organize and prioritize a patient assignment and unit activities. Ability to document to standards for specific pediatric through geriatric patient populations. Competent in all identified department specific orientation and annual competencies. Ability to safely use equipment specific to the MSTU work environment and patient populations including all 0 lift devices. Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills with multidisciplinary team members, ancillary departments and clinical areas, physicians, patients and family members. Able to adhere to dress codes specific to personal hygiene, finger nail care, dress, piercing, tattoos and fragrances. Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, documentation of immunization/immunity against hepatitis B, and training related to blood borne pathogens is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / HAZARDS AND COMPLIANCE:

Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and BBP. Risk of exposure to communicable disease, blood and body fluids. Risk of physical injury from lifting pa­tients and operation of equipment. Complies with manager's instructions and hospital policies regarding reporting injuries and hazards/hazardous conditions and attends safety training as required. Works in a safe manner at all times by using appropriate protective equipment and maintains personal protective equipment as instructed. Participates in health and safety initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Patient care delivery reflects an understanding of the­rapeutic nursing measures in the care of musculoskeletal, respi­ratory, cardiovascular, bowel and bladder systems and nu­tritional maintenance / feeding, positioning and comfort measures.

Demonstrates proficiency in department specific skills. Completes, maintains and demonstrates competency in all unit-based orientation and annual competencies per regulatory, departmental and hospital standards.

Uses an understanding of the prin­ciples of growth and develop­ment to as­sess each patient's age specific needs and pro­vide age specific treat­ment and care. Meets age specific competencies.

Promotes a Health and Healing environment by maintaining organization and work readiness of the department, patient rooms, and patient care areas. Restocks supplies. Assures patients have fresh water, laundry hampers are emptied, the kitchen is clean and stocked, and the equipment room is organized and clean. Provides a clean, calm, orderly, and quiet patient room environment. Empties patient room and kitchen garbage before it is overfilled. Does not store excess linen in the patient's room. Does not duplicate supplies. At end of shift leaves the department as they would want it to be at the start of their own shift.

Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors in interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful, re­sulting in positive customer perceptions. Works with patients to provide choices whenever possible.
