Associate Director of Clinical Education and Services (HEA) - Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences

**POSITION DETAILS**

The Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing at Lehman College, CUNY, seeks applicants for the full-time position of Associate Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Services for the Speech and Hearing Center beginning Fall 2024, reporting directly to the Director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic. The position is labeled as a Higher Officer Associate (HEO A) and is a 12-month position. Candidates are expected to provide leadership in the department and the graduate program in the areas of student externship/field placement, recruitment and maintenance of community clinical relationships and training sites, clinical field placement advisement for students, monitoring of clinical training of students in outside community placements, and clinical education and training. The Associate Director reports to also works closely with the Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Services to maintain and support all clinical operations and services provided to the community.

Duties Include but not limited to:

- Provide leadership in advancing the scholastic and operational endeavors of the department and the graduate program in externship/ field placement of graduate students including bolstering, recruiting and maintaining relationships with outside externship facilities and securing new and ongoing affiliation agreements through our legal departments.

- Facilitates graduate student clinical experiences through consultations with Externship Instructors and Site Supervisors and advises students regarding field placement requirements, supportive learning opportunities, and preparations.

- Monitors student progress through review of written performance evaluations, students' site placement paperwork and consultation with Externship Instructors and Site Supervisors.

- Develops and conducts clinical education and orientation seminars for students entering their first and second externship experiences and coordinates regular meetings with students in externship placements.

- Works closely with externship instructors assigned to externship course sections and clinical educators to yield seamless transitions for students

- Develop, distribute, and monitor the externship manual, communicates clinic policies and supervisory responsibilities with outside community site supervisors.

- Maintains records of clinical affiliations and provides regular updates of the externship program to the faculty.

- Assists the Director of Clinical Education and Clinical Services in all clinical operations, supervision of center staff, daily management and planning of clinical education in the Speech and Hearing Center including auditing all clinical folders and supervising submission of all

diagnostic evaluations.

- Works to advance integration between clinical and academic departmental units, promote evidenced-based clinical practice, support clinical research, and encourage best-practices in student-clinician supervision and mentorship to ensure students' seamless transition to

externship placements.

- Attendance at department meetings, track meetings, and other meetings as necessary and other programming related to the Director's main responsibilities

The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The college serves undergraduate and graduate students preparing them for employment, entrance into the professions, and further study. The Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences provides education for speech language pathology students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Attendance at staff development opportunities, as well as participation in department and school-wide meetings, is expected.

The Department of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences is currently housed in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing (HS2N). The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing currently includes six departments: Exercise Science and Recreation; Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences; Health Equity, Administration & Technology; Social Work; Speech, Language and

Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. The school is also home to the CUNY Institute for Health Equity. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on urban populations. The faculty are also strongly committed to high quality teaching and preparation of ethical and skilled health and human service professionals.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master of Arts or Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology or the equivalent, eligibility for New York State Licensure, and certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. A minimum of 6 years of clinical experience across the lifespan and demonstrated interest in clinical education and supervision.

Experience in higher education administration and/or supervision

Evidence of a leadership role in an academic or administrative setting

Bilingual Spanish preferred

Excellent aptitude in computer technology and programs including MS365 Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat

**CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW**

Manages program development and operations of a learning resource center.

- Implements and monitors a comprehensive student support program based on targeted academic resources such as tutoring, remedial and/or other related support services

- Prepares outcomes assessment to further develop center offerings; sets goals and objectives; and supports strategic plan

- Creates, implements and delivers seminars, workshops and other programs to meet the needs of students and faculty

- Collaborates with academic departments and other units to design, execute and improve center offerings

- Oversees promotional material development and center communications utilizing various media formats

- Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management

- Manages professional, instructional and/or clerical staff; may administer department budget

- May seek additional funding by identifying new revenue sources and grants

- Performs related duties as assigned.
