**CHARACTERISTICS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

I. Clinical - 80%

1. Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Examiners and the American Medical Association, properly balanced with other academic activities.

2. Develop and maintain a service for patients referred to the UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

3. Provide clinical staffing for the Department at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other clinicians with the same level of training and experience.

4. Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within one working days.

5. Complete patient documentation for medical records within timeframes provided by institutional policy. Will require dictating in a clear and concise manner, and visual review of documents.

6. Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with referring physicians and other health care personnel regarding patient care and treatment.

7. Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians and other health care personnel as appropriate.

8. Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students rotating in the Department.

9. Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in cancer medicine for fellows and for observers, visitors, medical residents and students who rotate through the various Sections in the Department.

a. After comprehensive review and analysis, develop, implement, provide, and evaluate the written learning materials for the specific graduate curriculum in cancer medicine.

10. Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to cancer medicine. Analyze education needs and, using a dictating machine or a computer keyboard, develop continuing education programs.

11. Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences, which requires verbal/interaction with colleagues and walking to meeting locations throughout the campus.

12. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.

II. Administration - 10%

Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings, which may include walking to each meeting site. Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary. Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions.

III. Research - 5%

Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department.

1. Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the Department. Requires the ability to synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research. May necessitate (orally or in writing) instructing research support personnel in protocol implementation.

2. Seek appropriate funding mechanism to support clinical or basic research. May require completion of grant application forms through oral dictation or use of a computer and keyboard. This will also require budget development and analysis.

IV. Education- 5%

1. Represent the Department in local, regional, state, and national matters pertaining to cancer medicine. Will require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by sharing with the department colleagues verbally or in writing.

2. Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings, which may include walking to each meeting site. Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary. Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions.

3. Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty. This will require listening to and assimilating information from the conferences.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Clinician with post-graduate degree in Psychology or related field

2. Previous training in palliative care, integrative medicine, or symptom control desirable

3. Must be able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships with other physicians, patients, and subordinates.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

Required: Doctorate level degree

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Work Location: Onsite

This position has a target base salary of $130,000 to $230,000 and is eligible for incentive compensation, comprehensive health, wellness, time off, savings, and retirement benefits, as well as relocation support, as applicable.
