Overview

The Assistant or Associate Professor plays a pivotal role in the Master of Science Alternative Programs in Education and Special Education for Birth to Grade 2, Grades 1-6, Adolescent Special Education in Grades 7-12, and the PK-12 Special Education programs. Working closely with the Program Chair, the individual is responsible for designing and delivering program courses that focus on ensuring overall program effectiveness. The individual is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, advises, and supervises master's-degree candidates, actively participates in faculty collaborative learning, and demonstrates scholarly productivity.?? The Assistant or Associate Professor works with the Program Chair in all aspects of program design.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Designs, revises, and teaches graduate courses in Master of Science Alternative Programs in Education and Special Education for Birth to Grade 2, Grades 1-6 and the Adolescent Special Education in Grades 7-12.

Maintains knowledge of current research and trends in teaching and learning for PreK-12 students with special needs, including those with social-emotional disabilities and low incidence disabilities.

Experience with assessment and effective teaching methodologies for students with diverse needs utilizing a variety of instructional delivery methods, instructional and assistive technologies, and educational resources for educational equity and access, in online, remote, and in-person settings.

Supervises teacher candidates in school settings.

Serves as an instructional leader, facilitating and participating with collaborative faculty teams, course revisions, and developing and sustaining transformative pedagogy in graduate teaching and learning, whether online, remotely, or in-person.

Builds and maintains clinical partnerships with schools and mentors in PreK-12 education, fostering connections and contributes to the development of a clinically-rich teacher education preparation program.

Provides academic advisement to program candidates and outreach to potential candidates.

Maintains a current record of scholarly activities and publications, as well as professional service.

Serves on Graduate School of Education committees, participating in both online and in-person meetings as required.

Supports and contributes to program level continuous improvement for national/professional accreditation.

Engages in successful grant writing.

Upholds the missions and values of Touro College and the Graduate School of Education in both online and in-person contexts.

Performs other duties as assigned, which may include both online and in-person responsibilities. Lead course teams

Qualifications

Education/ Experience

Earned doctorate in Education, or related field, ABD with anticipated conferral date within one year of hire considered.

At least three years teaching experience in PreK-12 classroom, working with students who have diverse learning needs.

Experience in course and program design. Successful experience in assessment and data use in the PreK-12 and higher education classrooms with evidence of positive learning and development for diverse groups of students.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

Commitment to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy.

Excellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal/intercultural skills across a wide range of mediums, including social media.

Competence with online learning platforms including Canvas, Adobe Connect, & Zoom.

Ability to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and using innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

Expertise with educational technologies such as PlayPosit, Yuja, Nearpod, and other digital tools and media.

Experience with online teaching.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, & Outlook.

Some travel to Touro University GSE sites in New York City, including occasional evenings, as needed.

Maximum Salary

USD $82,000.00/Yr.

Minimum Salary

USD $65,600.00/Yr.
