The Highlights: The Director of Development for DePaul's Driehaus College of Business is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and planned gift prospects and donors. This role involves building authentic relationships with alumni and friends, managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, meeting annual fundraising goals, and collaborating with the Office of Advancement and College faculty and staff. The director also participates in a working group to support the Driehaus College of Business for all advancement functions, with oversight of fundraising strategies for one to two areas within the college. This position reports to the Executive Director of Development for the Driehaus College of Business.
What You'll Do:
- Directs the identification, qualification, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of major gifts prospects/donors for the Driehaus College of Business, as well as other philanthropic initiatives of the University. Ensures that, over time, the areas within the college this individual oversees have a sufficient number of qualified major gift prospects to achieve established goals. Briefs faculty leaders in assigned areas on development strategies and progress to goal and prepares the faculty for major gifts solicitations.
- In partnership with the faculty leadership, develops annual and long-range major gift solicitation plans based on specific process targets and financial goals. Briefs and staffs the faculty leadership on relevant development initiatives as necessary.
- Advises and assists with initiatives at the request of the Dean/faculty leadership and/or the Executive Director of Development for the Driehaus College of Business. Participates, to a reasonable extent, in university-wide activities and initiatives, task forces, and committees. Maintains a commitment to ongoing professional development and education.
- Bachelors degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 4 to 6 years of increasingly responsible experience in major gift fundraising, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Previous campaign experience preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.
- The ability to work without close supervision and to make appropriate independent decisions concurrent with University policy.
- Discretion and an ability to interact with high-level donors and their families.
- The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Very strong project management and organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Excellent communications skills, coupled with strong writing and presentation skills, as well as the ability to present before a group.
- Willingness to learn and to be an efficient user of the CRM/prospect database.
- The ability to develop an innovative strategic approach to fundraising.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications, especially MS Excel.
- Maintain a polished, professional demeanor.
- Position requires some travel and occasional evening and weekend work for events and donor meetings.
