The Highlights: The Coordinator of Field Experience and Student Teaching in the Office of Community Partnerships and Student Internships is responsible for coordinating and managing the student teacher and field experience placement process within our P-12 public, private, and independent educational sites in Chicago and the surrounding communities. In close collaboration with the P-12 teacher licensure programs, the role will manage the logistics and coordination of field experience and student teaching, ensuring compliance with all required state-regulated compliance documentation and in keeping with approved program requirements and objectives including those unique to individual programs. The Coordinator will work collaboratively to develop and maintain systems for storing and accessing comprehensive databases of required and relevant information. The Coordinator will support effective communication and guidance across all involved entities including DPU students, program faculty and staff, partner schools and their administrators, cooperating teachers, and site supervisors.
 

What You'll Do:

  • Placement Coordination and Management - Oversee the placement process, ensuring all student teachers and field experience students are placed in a timely and well-coordinated manner. - Support development of and maintenance of systems to store and access the comprehensive databases of all relevant and required information to maintain state-regulated compliance. - Coordinate logistics including scheduling, communication, and documentation while adhering to all program policies and requirements. This may include student registration and management/hiring of field supervisors. -Regularly communicate with university faculty and other CoE administrators and staff to understand program requirements and objectives for placements. 
  • Program Development and Enhancement - Assess the effectiveness of student teacher and field experience placements through evaluation methods like surveys, interviews, and observations. - Analyze feedback and data to identify areas for improvement and recommend changes to enhance the quality of placements and overall student experience for student teachers and field experience students. - Regularly communicate and collaborate with program faculty such that field experiences and student teaching are closely aligned with program goals and objectives.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration and Relationship Management -Foster and maintain strong relationships with school administrators and cooperating teachers in partner schools. - Communicate with partner schools to understand their needs, provide support, and work with the director to address concerns related to placements when necessary. - Conduct meetings and workshops for DPU students and university supervisors to offer guidance, resources, and insight to enhance support for field experience placement and student teachers. - Communicate with program faculty to ensure alignment with program requirements and objectives.  
  • Policy Management - Adhere to regulations and program policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards related to placements. - Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to the student placement process and school partners. 
  • Supervision and Team Management - Provide guidance and supervision to GAs involved in student teacher and field experience placement activities. -Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging professional growth and development among team members. - Provide ongoing feedback and support to team members.
  • 10% of time supporting the supervision of the GAs who support the office.

 

What You'll Need:
  • A minimum bachelor's degree required. 
  • Required experience working in a P-12 or higher education setting. 
  • Required strong organizational, planning, and project management skills with meticulous attention to detail. Required ability to work for extended periods on independent, computer-based tasks. 
  • Required excellent communication/interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders. 
  • Preferred prior experience working in a university setting. 
  • Preferred candidate holds a teaching credential. Preferred experience in coordinating students in teacher education placements. 
  • Preferred comprehensive knowledge of teacher education programming including the state regulations governing placements. 
  • Preferred demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage a team. 
  • Preferred proficiency in data management, data systems, and technology tools used for placement coordination.
  • Preferred that the candidate holds or held an Illinois or out-of-state teaching credential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Canva, Excel, google docs, Microsoft Teams.
  • Occasional use of personal vehicle. 
  • This role may require some work outside of the standard business hours.
     
  The anticipated hiring range for this position is: $47,783.00 to $56,650.00 per year.  The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
