Description

The Highlights: Provides compensation analysis, support, and guidance to assigned areas of the University.  Partners with various stakeholders, including Managers in the colleges, Human Resources, Finance, and others to accomplish tasks and goals. Conducts job evaluation and market-pricing of positions using salary tools to ensure external competitiveness and internal equity.  Provides counsel on competitive salary offers and ad-hoc pay changes, and other requests, ensuring recommendations are within federal, state and local guidelines.  Approves submitted payments, such as stipends, reimbursements, and other individual compensation plan requests.  Works pro-actively with assigned areas on data integrity and requests and troubleshoots any problems that arise in HRIS system.  Participates in annual merit cycle and works on other ad-hoc compensation projects such pay and benefits statements, pay equity analysis, and merit distribution.
 

What You'll Do:

  • Conducts base pay management and administration for assigned areas.  Evaluates jobs and recommends salary grades on positions, ensuring internal equity and external competitiveness.  Conducts market analysis using automated salary tools and surveys.  Educates managers, members of talent acquisition and others on recommendations and rationale.  Provides counsel on competitive salary offers, ad-hoc salary increases/decreases and issues relating to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  Ensures recommendations are in line with budget, federal and state regulations and the university's strategy and overall goals. 
  • Works on ad-hoc analyses, consulting, and compensation projects.  Projects include market positioning, pay and benefits statements, adjustments to compensation structure, payout histories, FLSA, geographic analyses, and research on compensation trends and programs.  May assist with executive compensation projects. 
  • Review and approves individual payment requests in the HRIS system for staff employees, including staff recognition award payments, one-time payments, stipends, and others.  Rejects any payments that do not comply with university guidelines.  Troubleshoots issues as they arise. 
  • Works pro-actively with assigned areas to ensure data integrity in the HRIS system, including position data requests and setup, salary grades, FLSA status, and others. Troubleshoots issues with data integrity and partners with various individuals in the colleges and HR and Finance to resolve issues. 
  • Participates in the annual merit process for assigned areas.  Works on assigned team to setup   Designs cost scenarios and merit and performance/promotional matrices, as needed.  Partners with Director in developing communication processes to ensure timely implementation of merit review process, in support of the performance management process.  Troubleshoots any merit issues or discrepancies within assigned areas
  • Partners with HRIS to leverage technology and implement automated and enhanced solutions for improved administration of critical compensation processes.  Helps to test solutions and serves on a team that tests routine patches and enhancements to systems to ensure that systems are running as designed.  Makes recommendations for process improvements and enhancements 
     
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Business Administration, Human Resources or a related discipline from an accredited four-year college or university required.  Master's degree, or progress towards Master's a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience and responsibility in base pay compensation design and support, including job evaluation and leveling, FLSA categorization, DOL regulations, survey benchmarking, market-pricing and salary administration. 
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) preferred or progress towards CCP   
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with university contacts
  • Excellent consultative skills
  • Ability to conduct complex reporting and analysis 
  • Ability to present/communicate findings to various levels of constituents in clear, concise and accurate manner
  • Prior experience with an enterprise personnel/payroll platform.
