The Highlights: In accordance with the mission of the Department of Athletics, the Softball Associate Head Coach will assist in administering the progress and success of the intercollegiate women's softball program within the guidelines of the NCAA, the Big East Conference and DePaul University. This includes all pre-season, in-season and post-season activities necessary to the development of a nationally-competitive and successful program. Successful candidates share a commitment to celebrating the diverse cultures, backgrounds and experiences of the DePaul Athletics community both on and off the field.


What You'll Do:

  • Coordinate the evaluation, recruitment, preparation and development of all student-athletes. Such evaluation and recruitment activities may include, but are not limited to identifying, contacting and recruiting prospective student-athletes by phone, mail and other forms of correspondence; traveling to various locations throughout Chicago and across the country to meet and evaluate in person prospective student-athletes; and operating camps and clinics. 
  • Assist in all aspects of the preparation and development of women's softball student-athletes. Such activities may include, but are not limited to planning practice sessions, video analysis of performance, providing feedback and encouraging positive performance. Advanced knowledge of working a lineup and understanding of NCAA Division 1 softball rules, including video replay rules. 
  • Assess and order all team uniforms, equipment, apparel and sport-specific supplies. Support the booking of travel accomodations and arrangements in conjunction with the Athletic Business Office. Serve as a liaison ot the Athletic Business Office regarding adherence to the programs budget and timely submission of expense reports. 
  • Coordinate all events associated with DePaul Softball camps, both on campus and remotely. 
  • Assist in monitoring and encouraging the scholastic progress of student-athletes in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Advising (AAA) Office, so as to promote their academic success. 
  • Establish and maintain quality relationships with alumni and support organizations of DePaul University. Serve as the department's liaison on all public relations and promotional activities for the women's softball program and work with the Athletic Development Office to solicit gifts 
  • Learns and maintains up-to-date knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA rules, policies and procedures pertaining to women's softball. Attend and participate in monthly NCAA rules and compliance meetings.
  • Assist the Head Coach in supervision of volunteer and student assistant coaches and student managers.
  • Serve as liaison to the Athletic Business Office (ABO) regarding adherence to the program's budget and timely submission of expense reports.

 

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelors Degree required. 5-8 years coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division 1 level.
  • Preference given to candidates with previous Head Coaching experience and experience as a pitching coach.
  • Collegiate playing experience preferred
  • Requirement that a coach shall not engage in off-campus recruiting activities until the coach has received, from the coach's institution, rules education covering NCAA legislation, including Bylaw 13 adn other bylaws that relate to the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. 
  • Valid Driver's license required for team transportation needs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
  • Ability to use video analysis software to improve team training and game preparation (Synergy and Rapsodo)
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse urband and/or intercollegiate athletics environment
  • Dedication to serving the department, the University and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, inititative and integrity.
  • Position requires working evenings, weekends, and university holiday hours during the school year.
  • Travel is required for extended periods of time for competition and recruiting.
