The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) invites applications for a dedicated and passionate full-time Staff Physician in Hematology/Oncology. Key Responsibilities

As a Staff Physician in Hematology/Oncology at CTVHCS, you will play a critical role in the holistic care of our veteran patients, managing both inpatient and outpatient needs. Your responsibilities will also extend to actively participating in our educational mission, ensuring that knowledge and best practices are shared within the agency.

We are looking for a candidate with extensive expertise in chemotherapy and proficiency in various hematology and oncology procedures. Exceptional communication and leadership abilities are essential for this position, supporting your success in our dynamic team environment.

Academic Affiliations and Opportunities

This position offers a chance to engage with the Dell Medical School, where candidates should qualify for an academic appointment at the Assistant level or above. Our Hematology and Oncology program is an integral part of the Medical Service at CTVHCS, playing a vital role in diagnosing and treating a wide range of malignancies. We are also associated with Baylor Scott and White Healthcare, one of the primary sites for the Hematology and Oncology Fellowship program.

The Hematology and Oncology section currently leads several active research protocols and has plans for further expansion. CTVHCS boasts a Commission on Cancer (CoC) approved cancer program, enhancing our capacity to deliver quality care.

Candidate Preferences

We prefer candidates who are board-certified in their specialty and possess teaching experience.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive annual salary ranging from $270,000 to $348,000, plus an annual performance bonus and regular salary increases.
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with rotating on-call weekend coverage approximately every two months.
  • Paid Time Off: Generous offering of 50-55 days of paid time off annually, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 federal holidays, along with potential CME-related absences.
  • Retirement Options: Enjoy a traditional federal pension with a 5-year vesting period and a federal 401(k) plan with contributions of up to 5% from the VA.
  • Insurance: Comprehensive federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long-term care insurance, many of which may carry into retirement.
  • Licensure: One full and unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory is required.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME): Reimbursement of up to $1,000 annually for full-time, board-certified physicians.
  • Liability Protection: Free malpractice liability coverage, including tail coverage, is provided.
