Description
The Chief of Dental Service serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures. He/She will provide the administration of the Dental Service in compliance with applicable VHA, VISN, Medical Center and Dental Service Handbooks, Directives, Policies and Procedures. The Chief should also possess the expertise and competency to perform their specific scope of practice defined through the medical center credentialing and privileging process.
Sheridan VA Healthcare System dental officers shall hold the following minimum qualifications:
- Citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates.
- Graduate of a dental school, in receipt of a D.M.D. or D.D.S. degree or its equivalent and licensed to practice dentistry in one of the states or territories of the United States or the District of Columbia.
- Has completed an American Dental Association approved one or two-year dental general practice residency or has 3 or more years of professional practice clinical experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is required if conscious sedation is performed.
- Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
