Are you interested in positively impacting students' lives? We are seeking candidates for a collaborative, energetic, and innovative Geography Instructor position. Instructors are responsible for establishing and promoting an inclusive and effective learning environment to maximize student learning. Instructors may be assigned to teach geography courses in a traditional classroom and/or blended/hybrid settings as needed in the Social Sciences Division at Delta College.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Delta College.
  • Demonstrate a philosophy of teaching that provides learning opportunities that meet the needs of all students.
  • Teach at least 30 equated credit hours annually in a variety of settings including the main campus, Saginaw Center, Midland Center, or online. Online modalities include hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous.
  • Focus on supporting and assessing student learning and academic achievement to promote student success.
  • Develop innovative, dynamic, and engaging learning environments that support student learning and success.
  • Subject to ongoing agreements with the Saginaw Public School District, the person in this position is expected to participate in instruction for the Saginaw Academy of Excellence program. This will include 1-2 morning sections of Physical Geography during mornings in the fall semester at the Downtown Saginaw campus, with an online lab component. These sections will count toward the required teaching load.
  • Master's degree in Geography from regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Demonstrated currency in the field of Physical Geography
  • Must have a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Geography, with the ability to teach Physical Geography with an online lab component.
  • College Teaching Experience within a Higher Education Setting.
  • Demonstrated currency in Geographic Information Systems
  • Experience using a variety of teaching technologies and methodologies
  • Demonstrated current and ongoing professional growth
  • Substantive multicultural experience (for example: urban community service, academic course work in minority or foreign language studies, or teaching experience with minority students)
  • Experience working with non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills
  • Experience using course management systems
  • College teaching experience, especially in a community college setting
  • Teaching experience in cultural geography and/or geology
  • Online teaching experience
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations
  • Experience with teaching courses for dual enrollment initiatives
  • Experience teaching dual-enrollment students in mission-essential regional programs.
