Delta College is committed to provide students pursuing a graduate degree in counseling an excellent opportunity to participate in a comprehensive internship program at Delta College, one of America's leading Community Colleges.    Delta College looks to bring on an Intern in the Personal Counseling Services office on a yearly/semester basis starting in mid-August through December and/or early January through end of April each academic year to help support student mental health and well-being.   This internship will primarily work with the Personal Counseling Services office to assist with academic support, personal support and overall developmental programing. The intern will also assist in identifying and reducing barriers to student success. 
PURPOSE OF POSITION:

  • Provide mental health services, both direct and indirect, to students to enhance their Delta College experience and improve their retention. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provides short-term individual counseling to promote positive mental health and personal adjustment in students. 
  • Provide clinical screening intake for mental health counseling and crisis intervention to enrolled Delta College students.
  • Provides case management services, as needed..
  • Contribute to campus wellness through education and training by coordinating, designing and implementing outreach programming on mental, emotional, and other health topics to faculty, staff and students including workshops supporting our diverse population. 
  • Provides appropriate documentation and reports as it relates to case management. 
  • Participate in departmental efforts to evaluate and continuously improve service provisions.
  • Build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions across campus to provide outreach and activities reducing mental health stigma.
  • Review Career Assessments with undecided students exploring career interests and set career goals. 
  • Utilize CRM Advise software to review and respond to referrals submitted through the Student Support System and developing intervention strategies in support of students struggles. 
  • Assist at-risk students with setting goals and identifying, planning and overcoming potential obstacles and defining steps in education and career planning. 
  • Maintain case management files with appropriate documentation to track contact hours, issues, and outcomes.
  • Pursuit of a Master's degree in Counseling 
  • A strong desire to pursue a career in the post-secondary education setting
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to work with time sensitive projects
  • Requires ability to manage multiple tasks with strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to foster and maintain working relationship with other departments in the College and the community
  • Willingness to learn multiple software systems and ability to navigate between them

COMPENSATION:
This is an unpaid internship opportunity provided to Master's level counseling students to fulfill their degree requirements.
