The Business & Technology Discipline at Delta College is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member committed to equity, retention, and completion for student success. The instructor will be responsible for effective teaching in the face-to-face, blended, and online classroom. Potential candidates will have the ability to teach online as well as face-to-face and blended/hybrid courses during the evening, at multiple locations (Downtown Centers, Dual Enrollment Partners), and nontraditional times as needed. In addition, we seek candidates whose pedagogy, research, and continuous professional development have prepared them to engage with the college's commitment to belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion (BEDI).

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Integrate international and intercultural experiences in the college, community and curriculum.
  • Serve the community through outreach activities.
  • Make effective and innovative use of appropriate technology in the performance of the listed responsibilities and accountabilities.
  • Participate in shared governance as a full member of the academic community.
  • Teach at least 30 equated credit hours annually in a variety of setting including day, evening, weekend, on campus, and off campus.
  • Commit to ongoing educational and professional growth.
  • Engage fully in course, discipline, program development, curriculum development and assessment.
  • Attend and participate in discipline, division and college meetings.
  • Possess minimum technology skills and understanding of a course management system.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate teaching effectiveness which supports student learning and encompasses pedagogies for student success to meet course or program requirements.
  • Possess the ability to work in a variety of settings which promote quality learning.
  • Maintain professional development to assure currency within field of practice.
  • Possess effective verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Teach a broad range of Automotive and GM/ASEP courses.
  • Prepares, teaches and evaluates assigned instructional courses (classroom and lab).
  • Updates course syllabi to reflect changes.
  • Advise students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc.
  • Provide curriculum insight and guidance regarding continuous improvement initiatives for the program.
  • Serve as liaison regarding program content and delivery between the program faculty and the Program Chair, Associate/Academic Dean and/or Campus President.
  • Participate in program advisory committee meeting as required.
  • Develops supplemental teaching materials to augment courses.
  • Create, maintain and update course information as well as grades.
  • Implements new teaching strategies as appropriate.
  • Evaluates textbooks for relevancy, quality and currency, making recommendations as necessary as per established policy.
  • Maintains accurate records of students' attendance and performance.
  • Adheres to assigned teaching load/hours.
  • Integrates new technology in instructional delivery methods.
  • Adheres to/enforces policies and procedures related to academic area.
  • Maintains a hazard free environment and practices safety in lab(s) or classroom.
  • Keeps students advised of their progress in class and when needed, refer students when needed for assistance.
  • Adheres to college's policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor Degree in Automotive, Education, or Related Field.
  • Associate's Degree in automotive service.
  • 4000 hours of on the job automotive technician work experience (required for Bachelor or Associate degrees).
  • ASE Master Certification.
  • ASE G-1 certification within 90 days of employment.
  • ASE L-1 certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Demonstrated ongoing professional growth.
  • Flexibility with teaching times of classes
  • ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification (applicable to Delta's Heavy Duty Diesel Program).
  • ASE A-9 certification.
  • ASE L-3 certification.
  • EPA section 609 certification.
  • SM STS 100% in all eight areas.
  • GM MTC world class certified in all eight areas.
  • Ability to teach in a variety of formats, including online and/or using technology as a learning tool in an environment with diverse student populations.
  • College teaching experience.
  • Experience with teaching courses for dual enrollment initiatives.
  • Experience and or education in emerging technologies such as hybrid, electric vehicles or alternative fuels.
  • Pedagogy is informed by belonging, equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Bilingual
