Overview
Exciting new research technologist position to work with a faculty member of Radiation Oncology and the Dartmouth Cancer Center in Lebanon, NH. Dr. Kelli Pointer studies the mechanisms of cancer in primary brain tumors and the use of combination radiation therapy and targeted therapies to treat this unique patient population.
Under the general supervision of Dr. Pointer, this position requires working knowledge of applicable laboratory procedures, tests, techniques and terminology. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to: conducting experiments, collecting and summarizing data, working with collaborators, working with animal models, and providing proper laboratory/study subject care. May repair research equipment and/or maintain research facility.
Responsibilities
- Use of basic scientific methods, procedures and techniques including, but not limited to molecular biology, animal experimental procedures, and imaging techniques gained through previous training and experience.
- Working knowledge of theory behind experiments and the ability to apply basic analytical skills to implement assigned projects, as well as the ability to identify and troubleshoot situations needing special attention.
- Follows established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which may include: basic tissue culture, cell separation methods, electrophoretic separations, assays, basic molecular biology, or other specialized histology and biological science techniques. May utilize in vivo models in experiments.
- Collects data and monitors data quality and accuracy as required by research protocol. Maintains appropriate documentation of research results, as required by research protocol. Recommends revisions to experimental methods based upon observations of the data.
- Monitors inventory levels, orders materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, counts orders upon receipt.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree with 3 years of laboratory based research experience, or the equivalent in education and experience, preferred.
• Excellent organizational, writing, and standard laboratory software skills required.
• Previous experience working with cell cultures and molecular biology techniques.
• Knowledge of laboratory and safety standard operating procedures.
• Knowledge of using/reading/keeping graphs, logs, charts and statistics.
• Ability to effectively work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
