- POSITION SUMMARY
- The Diabetes Educator is either an RN, RD, or APRN who is an expert clinician and advocate for diabetic patients. The Diabetes Educator provides direct patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, and treatment of health problems, health promotion and preventative care to the patient with diabetes. In addition to direct practice, the Diabetes Educator provides staff/patient/family education, evaluation of patient care outcomes, provides professional consultation and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Education and Experience:
- Associates in Nursing, Bachelors in Nursing, APRN in Nursing or Bachelors in Dietetics.
- License/Certificates:

Current MN License as an RN, APRN or RD
Diabetes Care and Education Specialist preferred

- Exemplifies self-direction with good organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and compliance of state and federal accrediting agencies.
- Must possess strong communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately.
- Ability to develop and implement plans for program/department operations.
- Ability to adapt resources to meet the needs of the situation.

Exercise concern for the patient's welfare, maintain knowledge of the patient/resident/client's condition, administer medication and perform treatment while practicing and maintaining high ethical standards.

Responsible for the direct and indirect care of residents/patients/clients assigned to her/him under the guidance of the Diabetes Education Coordinator, maintain accurate and complete records or nursing assessment and care, and provide counsel to residents/patients/clients and family in meeting nursing and related needs.

Remain up-to-date on new skills and technology, utilizing the process (observation, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in the delivery of care.

Perform duties in accordance with physician's orders, the Medical Center's policies, methods, and techniques, and in coordinating with other departments and Medical Center personnel.

Provide leadership and promote teamwork.

When requested, participate in in-service programs, education programs, and orientation of new personnel.

Collaborate with CRMC dieticians to provide diabetes and nutritional education to patients and families.

Assure appropriateness of care for patients with diabetes.

Serve as the clinical expert and consultant on diabetes for nursing staff and other health care providers.

Provide leadership in research design, data analysis and outcome improvement.

Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
The estimated starting pay range for this role is $74,059- $99,781 Actual pay rate offered depends on many factors including each individual employee's experience level, preferred education/certifications, along with market conditions.
