Some of the important generalized work activities Anesthesiologists may perform include:
Administers anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical, and other medical procedures: Examines patients to determine the degree of surgical risk and type of anesthetic and sedation to administer and discusses findings with medical practitioners concerned with the case. Positions patient on the operating table and administers local, intravenous, spinal, caudal, or another anesthetic according to prescribed medical standards. Institutes remedial measures to counteract adverse reactions or complications. Records the type and amount of anesthetic and sedation administered and the condition of the patient before, during, and after anesthesia.
Required Procedures if Applicable:
To provide monitored anesthesia care, general and regional anesthesia for adult, pediatric, and obstetric patients, including perioperative critical care acute pain management, and continuous epidural anesthetic administration, as well as procedural sedation, the Anesthesiologist must be able to perform the following procedures:
- Airway Maintenance with Bag/Mask Ventilation
- Endotracheal Intubation
- Peripheral and Central Venous Access
- Epidural Catheter Placement
- Spinal Anesthetic Placement
- Swan-Ganz Catheter Placement
- Arterial Line Placement
- Nerve block with U/S guidance and peripheral nerve catheter placement
- Ob experience with spinals, epidurals, and C/S (moderate risk OB labor deck)
- General OR skills: thoracic epidurals, central-line and arterial line placement, double-lumen ETT placement and one-lung ventilation, etc.
Preferred Procedures if Applicable:
Heart cases requiring TEE require Cardiac Fellowship training
Required Minimum Education:
MD or DO, anesthesia-accredited ACGME residency program.
Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation
ABA certified or eligible, Colorado License, DEA with Colorado Address
