Job Description

The College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada is seeking applications for a full-time Laboratory Technician II for the Dental Hygiene and Assisting programs at the West Charleston campus. This position will set up dental hygiene/assisting labs to support clinical skills instructions; support all phases of dental lab preparation requirements (including procurement, sterilization, safety, recordkeeping, and enforcement of OSHA and CDC guidelines in dental healthcare settings.

Under direct supervision; responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare proper documents for ordering of supplies and equipment for the dental hygiene and dental assisting clinic.

  • Manage and assist in the setup and takedown of dental hygiene and assist clinics, labs, and classrooms as assigned, including materials and equipment in the Wet Lab.

  • Manage and coordinate sterilization for dental assisting and dental hygiene as established in NAC 631.178. Follow OSHA regulations and the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control to include documentation for preparing and testing dental waterlines and x-ray solutions.

  • Maintain sterilization equipment and provide accurate documentation of required weekly sterilizer maintenance.

  • Manage, solve clinical and equipment problems or repairs of equipment. Perform additional tasks as they arise to keep the clinic running smoothly to include proper documentation.

  • Maintain a written and computerized inventory of supplies and sterilization; provide photographic documentation of student clinical identification and other assigned events.

  • Prepare, sort, sterilize, and mount teeth for both dental assisting and dental hygiene as assigned. 

  • Be proactive in practicing prioritization of duties, assignments, and tasks and regularly report to the supervisor.

  • Provide proficiency and adaptability to cover dental hygiene and assisting clinics as assigned and assisting examiners in clinical preparation for students during state and regional board examinations.

  • Maintain workstation, including work area/room.

  • Respond to calls and emails in a timely manner to support students and staff within the department.

  • Maintain excellent communication with supervisor, Program Directors, and all within ESHS and CSN.

  • Encourage excellent work conduct and promote teamwork.

  • Address any problematic behavior following the chain of command immediately.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience in a laboratory setting that involved performing various laboratory tests and experiments, and maintaining and repairing basic laboratory equipment; OR one year as a Laboratory Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of MS Access or SQL databases

  • Experience performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibrating analytical instruments.

  • ADEC Training

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Ability to perform physical tasks which may include (but are not limited to) lifting objects heavier than 20 lbs, lifting biohazard containers, chemical waste buckets, delivered supplies, stocking supplies, assisting in the replacement of nitrous oxide and oxygen tanks, proper knowledge and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

  • Must pass safety training during orientation.

Weekly Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is subject to change based on organizational needs.

Starting Salary

Grade 27, Step 1 - $46,207.44

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
