Job Summary

The Director of Construction is responsible for the strategic oversight and effective execution of all construction and renovation projects within Facilities Management. This leadership role ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance. Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all construction projects, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and objectives. Directly supervise and support a team of two Construction Managers and two Construction Project Coordinators. Oversee and coordinate the work of contractors, design consultants, and third-party vendors to ensure project success. Monitor and manage project budgets and schedules throughout all phases of construction.

Manage construction inspections conducted by internal staff or external agents to ensure adherence to codes, standards, and specifications. Develop and implement policies and procedures related to building commissioning, whether performed by internal personnel or external consultants. Collaborate with Facilities Management leadership to enhance planning, execution, commissioning practices, and the selection process for construction contracts.

Administer day-to-day construction and renovation operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource management. Prepare detailed cost estimates, assess project feasibility, and identify practical solutions to complex construction challenges. Develop strategic goals and objectives to support the College's long-term facility needs and evolving campus priorities.

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all relevant project and construction management disciplines, standards, and best practices. Conduct post-construction evaluations to gather feedback, assess performance, and improve future project delivery.


 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university in Construction Management or related field.
  • 5 years of project management experience with on/ off site improvements.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • 1 year of experience as an Owner's representative with projects in excess of $100 million. 
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale construction projects in an institutional or similar setting. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking. Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Master's degree in a related field from a regionally accredited college and/or university in Construction Management or related field.
  • 20 years or more of project management experience with on/ off site improvements including at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Supervisory experience over State of Nevada Classified employees.
  • 3 years or more of experience as an Owner's representative with projects in excess of $100 million. 

The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Experience in supervising a professional/ technical staff.
  • Ability to make persuasive written and oral presentations.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction, planning, budgeting, and scheduling of projects.
  • Basic knowledge of contracts, purchasing and bidding projects.
  • Computer knowledge must include software commonly used in the construction industry. (MS Project, Procore, project scheduling programs, etc.)
  • Must possess leadership abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage emergencies in a highly complex, challenging environment and diverse workforce.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Experience in communication and stakeholder management.
  • Knowledge of scope, time, and cost management.
  • Ability to understand different styles of procurement and risk management.

Starting Salary Range

Administrative Faculty D - The starting salary is $103,901.
