Job Description

At the general direction of the Senior Associate Vice President/Controller, this Associate Controller is responsible for developing strategies and providing personnel and programmatic leadership for general accounting and cash management operations, including wires, ACH deposits, credit card processing, cash drawdown, bank reconciliation, and journal entry approval. This position serves as the liaison for Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) compliance.

This position shares responsibilities for period close process and annual financial statement preparation and audit. This position is also responsible for any special requests for information, public records requests, and one-time reports that are related to the general accounting and cash management operations.

This position serves as the Controller's designee for account balance write-off requests. The incumbent also represents the College in meetings and committees for banking services, payment gateway services, and merchant services.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or closely related field from a regionally accredited college/university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of full-time progressive experience as a ledger accountant.

  • Two years of full-time supervisory experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, TEAMS, Outlook, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant.

  • More than one year of full-time working experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software such as Workday, Banner, Oracle, etc.

  • More than two years of full-time experience in fund accounting.

  • Experience of providing financial training to a diverse audience.

  • Knowledge of the federal student aid cash management regulations.

  • Oracle PeopleSoft query skills. 

The duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge and understanding of and ability to research and interpret GAAP, GASB, and IRS codes.

  • Knowledge and understanding of and ability to implement applicable NSHE/Board of Regents policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of the State of Nevada legislative process and budgeting activities.

  • Knowledge of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

  • Working knowledge of fund accounting in higher education.

  • Working knowledge of month-end and year-end closing.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with all employee levels and with a variety of constituents, including internal and external auditors.

  • Effective supervisory skills, including coaching, training, recruitment, and performance evaluation.

  • Ability to prepare and analyze annual financial statements and related schedules.

  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to enhance financial management and internal controls.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize, execute multiple projects, and administer teams' workloads.

  • Ability to successfully lead a diverse work group to produce the desired result under strict time constraints.

  • Demonstrated effective time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions effectively in a virtual work environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced skill in Excel.

  • Proficiency in use of ERP systems common to higher education institutions.

Starting Salary Range

Administrative Faculty D - The Starting Salary is $103,901.
