Qualifications:
A Physician Assistant (PA) is a graduate of an approved program who is certified to perform medical services delegated by a supervising physician. A PA carries out certain patient care functions traditionally performed only by a physician. The PA functions in a dependent relationship under the supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician who must be qualified in the medical areas in which a PA is to perform.

Education:
Must be a graduate of a PA program formally approved by the Florida Board of Medicine for the education of physician assistants. Programs are accredited on behalf of the American Medical Association by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation.

Licensure:
Current license to practice as a physician assistant in the State of Florida by the Florida Board of Medicine Department of Professional Regulation.

Certification:
Current certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants; or, if the applicant is currently not certified, he/she must be eligible to take the certification examination and must achieve certification prior to the expiration of his/her temporary license issued by the State of Florida.

CPR Certification:
Ongoing basic CPR certification is preferred.

Supervision Codes:
DO: Direct Observation: Supervising physician is physically present to observe and supervise the allied health care member.

DS: Direct Supervision: Supervising physician is in the office or surgical suite and is readily available to direct actions of the allied health care member.

IS: Indirect Supervision: Supervising physician is easily available for consultation and direction of the actions of the allied health care member. Easily available includes the ability to communicate by way of telecommunication.

--- IS- Perform and dictate histories and physicals and discharge summaries (to be countersigned by the supervising physician).

---IS-Make rounds; write progress notes (to be countersigned by supervising physician).

---IS-Order or alter medication as authorized by supervising physician.

---IS-Administer medication as authorized by supervising physician.

---IS-Order laboratory, diagnostic testing, and invasive testing as authorized by supervising physician.

---IS-Write orders as authorized by supervising physician (to be countersigned by supervising physician).

---IS-Provide education and counseling of the patient and family in preventive care, medical conditions, and the use of prescribed drugs and treatment.

---IS-Suture simple wounds.

---IS-Remove sutures; staples.

---IS-I&D superficial skin infections.

---DS-Assist with diagnostic procedures.

---IS-Assess patients; Emergency medical screening.

---IS-Extremity mobilization as authorized by supervising physician.

---IS-Set simple fractures as authorized by supervising physician.

---IS-Cast/splint fractures as authorized by supervising physician.

---IS-Foreign body removal.

---DS-Assist in surgery.

All consultations and histories and physicals dictated by the P.A. is billable under the P.A. If there is no physician present, all visits are billable under the P.A.

Monitoring and Evaluation:
Physician assistants will be monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis through Coastal Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center supervising physicians. Physician assistants will be held to the same performance criteria as the physicians functioning in the same or similar capacity to assure one standard of care.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in orientation programs as requested.
  2. Complete the annual required education.
  3. Read and abide by Coastal Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center policies.
  4. Provide ongoing documentation and licensure/certification and BLS/ACLS certification.
  5. Participate in continuing education programs specific to specialty area.
  6. Provide documentation, as requested, of current clinical competence to perform privileges requested.
  7. Must document contact with each patient in the appropriate section of the medical record. All chart entries must be dated and signed.
  8. Must abide by all state and federal regulations regarding client confidentiality including release of information and responsibility to inform of probable physical harm.
  9. Will round at the local hospital daily.
  10. Will assist in various surgeries.
  11. Will complete daily tasks through EHR.
  12. Will see patients in clinic with respective physician.
  13. Will close in surgery.
  14. Will apply braces and casts.
  15. Will help with call schedule.
  16. Will take call one weekend a month with respective physician.

Compensation Information:
$120000.0 / Annually - $120000.0 / Annually
Details:
Will pay all licensure, 1 week CME with $1,500.00 compensation, 2 weeks PTO, 401k after one year, AFLAC, Health insurance including dental and vision

Up To: 140000.0 Annually
