Description
Over the next three years, the Waste Outreach team will support residents in making significant behaviour changes supporting building-level transition to three-stream collection. Starting in Fall 2023, residents began sorting their waste into food scraps, recycling, and garbage. The target audience for this outreach campaign lives in condos, apartments, and townhouses which all receive communal waste collection services. This outreach campaign is one of several components of the Communal Collection Project that supports behaviour change which include changes to the bylaw mandating colocation and a citywide communication strategy. Outreach will serve as the most direct attempt to help residents establish and maintain new waste sorting routines.
The Waste Outreach Educator engages the public going door to door within apartments and condos offering assistance to residents in understanding the introduction of three stream waste sorting at home.
They will record data from conversations via an ArcGIS online app and ask for waste related behaviour commitments from residents. The data collected will be used to inform additional rounds of canvassing and the future of waste outreach and other programs.
