1 temporary full-time position for up to 5 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in an veterinary technology post-secondary diploma program, commencing in April 2025

Increasing the City of Edmonton's livability, the Animal Care & Control Centre looks out for everyone's safety, including animals on the streets. In this role, you will help lost or stray pets in need. The work environment will have multiple competing priorities and elements to address with restricted timeliness. Under the direction of a Veterinarian, the Veterinary Technologist Summer Student will work with Registered Veterinary Technologists to provide care and treatment to stray dogs, cats and other pet animals. 

As a part of the team, you will:

  • Assist Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVT's) with rounds, admitting patients, administering medication, IV placement, blood collection, and radiology
  • Complete initial examinations of newly arrived patients, vaccinations under direction, restraining patients for examinations by the vet
  • Determine where the animals are housed according to species, size or illness of the animal
  • Data entry and record keeping, maintain logbooks, and digital data management
  • Communicate with rescue group contact for animal placement
  • Assist Veterinarian with surgery and animal restraint
  • Clean surgery suite, re-wrap packs and operate autoclave
  • Clean animal housing areas 
  • Provide animal enrichment 
  • Perform other related duties as required
